A car’s head restraint is crucial in accidents, especially rear end collisions. By limiting backward head movement other known as “whiplash”, keeping the head torso moving together, and cushioning impacts, preventing neck injuries like sprains and fractures by catching the head and tucking the chin. Rather than letting the neck hyperextend backwards.
Proper adjustment involves positioning the top of the restraint level with the top of your head, close to your head, and sitting upright to ensure it supports the head and not the neck, significantly reducing injury risk, even in low speed crashes.
