Meet Carolyn Burzynski, APRN-CNM 👩🏼‍⚕️🌸

We are so excited to have Carolyn join our team at Meadows Women’s Center! Originally from Northern Michigan, Carolyn recently traded snowy Southeastern Idaho for sunny Las Vegas.

With a passion for providing compassionate, patient-centered care, Carolyn started her career as a Labor + Delivery nurse after completing nursing school in Michigan. She later earned her Master's in Midwifery from Frontier Nursing University, and now enjoys every step of the journey with her patients.

🤰 “Pregnancy as a whole is such a special time for patients. As a midwife, I love collaborating with physicians as needed, managing routine appointments, and delivering your baby!”

Carolyn is dedicated to creating the most comfortable and safe birthing experience for her patients, while fostering a collaborative and trusting relationship. 💕

When she’s not at work, Carolyn loves exploring everything Las Vegas has to offer — from restaurants to shopping and new experiences. 🛍️🍴 She’s also a proud mama who cherishes family time, spa days, and cheering on her favorite Detroit teams! 🏀🏒🏉

🌸Breast Self-Awareness: A Guide to Knowing Your Body🌸

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a perfect time to remind ourselves of the importance of breast self-awareness. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you stay proactive in monitoring your health!

👉 Daily : Familiarize yourself with the normal look and feel of your breasts. Early detection can make a big difference! If you notice anything unusual like a lump or skin dimpling, consult your healthcare provider.

🚿 In the Shower: Use your three middle fingers to check the entire breast and armpit area with varying pressure. Look for any new lumps, knots, or changes in thickness.

🪞 In Front of the Mirror: Look for visual changes. Raise your arms, place your hands on your hips, and observe from different angles. Symmetry, shape, and skin texture can offer important clues.

🛏️ Lying Down: With your left hand, use your middle fingers to examine each breast, including the armpit area, with light, medium, and firm pressure. Check for anything out of the ordinary.

💖 Remember: Your body is unique, and what’s normal for one person may not be for another. These steps don’t replace professional screenings but empower you to know your body better. If anything feels off, reach out to your healthcare provider.

Meet Dr. Jamie Funk, MD 👩🏼‍⚕️🌸

Dr. Funk was born and raised in Boise, Idaho. “I embrace my Idaho roots and love to return there as often as possible to visit family.” She completed her undergraduate degree in biology, minoring in philosophy and psychology from the College of Idaho. She completed her medical degree at the University of Washington, and finished her OBGYN training at UNLV. Dr. Funk is passionate about minimally invasive surgery, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery. She also enjoys urogynocology, family planning, and of course, obstetrics. When asked about her favorite part of practicing, she said, “I love OBGYN because of the relationships built over time. I have the joy and opportunity to be witness to some of the happiest moments of my patient’s lives.” 💕

When Dr. Funk is not busy saving lives, she loves doing yoga 🧘‍♀️, pilates, spending time with her cat Tommy 🐱, and enjoying all the fun things to do and delicious food 🍽️ here in Las Vegas! Her goal is always to be an advocate for her patients. “Seeing a women’s health provider can at times feel scary or nerve-wracking, but my goal is to provide a space for patients to feel welcome and safe to talk about anything!” 💖

We’re so excited to welcome Dr. Funk to our team here at WHASN Meadows! 🤍🌸
