Today we honor, Marielle Landry! Marielle began her career at Palm Mortuary in 2014 as a part-time Funeral Service Attendant. In a short time she realized the profound impact she could make, helping a grieving family. She obtained her Funeral Director License and helped open the Palm Southwest Location in 2015. Since then, she’s become a member of the Leadership Team at Palm Downtown, Affordable Cremation & Burial, Thomas and Jones Funeral Home, and now Palm Northwest Mortuary and Cemetery. Marielle takes great pride in caring for our grieving families and mentoring her team. When she’s not at Palm, she’s most likely spending time with her lovely wife, on a golf course, hiking to the base camp of Mount Everest (yes, that’s right, she has done that), or walking in a parade down Las Vegas Boulevard. We are so very fortunate to have her on the team!
Q. What’s a misconception about your industry?
A. That if you work in the funeral industry, you’re free from the pain of grief. Some seem to be under the impression that you become desensitized, when in all actuality, we share in that pain that is grief. Palm Northwest, has a Grief Share Group on the second Tuesday of every month, from 5:30 pm to 7pm. It’s not just families that attend, but employees too. It’s a place where we can take our badges off and sit in a healing circle with others who are also going through their own grief journey.
Q. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
A. Two pieces of advice comes to mind. You won’t know, if you don’t try. – My Dad ~ I was at a point in my personal life, where I was navigating a very painful and difficult time. A colleague of mine, asked me to run a marathon with her, which I had never done. When thinking if I could/should, I remembered my Dad’s words. I’m proud to say, I did it! I will never do it again, but I figured out, I could do it, I made it! The second piece of advice is “Choose your own weather”- past mentor and friend. We all have times that we face adversity or difficult things. We get to choose how we respond. We can respond in a positive and constructive way, or not. I prefer to choose sunshine.
Q. How do you cheer yourself up?
A. I really love getting outside when I need that boost. I need fresh air and sunshine. Sometimes that’s getting outdoors for a hike, going for a walk or run, or playing a round of golf. I find when I get outdoors and move my body, my mind begins to clear and the cheer shines through.
