Thanksgiving is not the day, time, or place for me to give unsolicited nutrition advice!

Would I love it if everyone I loved followed an amazing diet all the time? Of course! I love them and want them around for as long as possible.

But over Thanksgiving, I just focus on the fun time spent with family and I’m grateful we have a meal to bring us together.

If you want my advice, I would say, don’t treat a once a year holiday like every day AND don’t treat every day like a once a year holiday. Having seasonal and unique foods, have dessert, enjoy all of it. Then on your normal days focus on getting lots of nonstarchy vegetables, whole grains, quality protein!

This isn’t to say you should never eat chick fil a, but it is important to understand the food around you.

If your goal is weight loss and many of your meals are dense in energy, it’s going to be harder to achieve your goals.

If your goal is weight gain and many of your meals lack calorie dense foods, it’s going to be harder to achieve your goals.

If you find yourself skipping a well balanced breakfast and pushing through the hunger so you can have a lunch like the one on the left, then it’s also going to be harder to reach your goals.

The information we know about the food around us are tools to help you make informed decisions that meet your specific needs. Dietitians are trained to help you meet those goals and needs in healthy and sustainable ways.
