Adventures in Hosting Ana & Jose - part 2:
I had to wait until Monday to see a doctor, so I was worried how I would fair all weekend.
Of course there was a lesson in there for me in leaning on my tribe, asking for help, and accepting help when it was being offered…. but I had no idea how many blessings would come from this.
Ana always says our injuries are our gifts, and this was truly a direct experience with that teaching.
I decided to practice all 4 workshops, even though everyone was telling me I should take it easy. I was prescribed pain meds at the ER, but I never picked up the prescription. I was high on breath and completely pain-free with an untreated, unmedicated fractured radius.
On Friday, Ana told me to breathe into my wrist. That was the first time I was actually able to follow my breath through my myofascial matrix and feel it my extremities. I literally felt my wrist breathing. I slept like a baby that night.
Saturday was a backbend practice. I was able to come up with a relevant modification for every single pose I couldn’t do in a sling. It felt so good to open my chest and strengthen my upper back muscles. My wrist felt very supported, and I was in deep gratitude to Ana for the Forrest Yoga practice giving me a true understanding of how to modify regardless of the limitation. I still use those modifications with students who have wrist and shoulder injuries.
Sunday was the music medicine ceremony. It was the first time I ever experienced the healing power of sound. Ana and Jose ran the energy of the sound vibrations into my wrist while Jay played didjeridoo over it. I felt a wave of release and pleasure surge through my arm. It was absolutely magical.
Monday I saw my surgeon and he was shocked that I didn’t have any pain and wasn’t on medication. I had surgery with a plate and screws. Healing was rapid. I was back in handstand within 3 months of surgery, and the scar is barely visible anymore.
I hope you partake in Ana & Jose’s magic as they visit us in Vegas this July. It’s going to be an incredible weekend. I’m also remembering the other 2 crazy times I hosted Ana & Jose… more on that later
