Our Chef Showdown “sweets” event brought the heat – and plenty of sugar!

Residents, guests and even a panel of celebrity judges watched as our chefs went spatula-to-spatula with residents’ cherished dessert recipes in a live cooking competition. From secret family ingredients to chef-inspired twists, everyone had the chance to taste and vote for their favorite version of each sweet treat.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for the fun – and congratulations to all our resident bakers and culinary pros who made this showdown so delicious!

Congratulations to Andrea, one of this year’s recipients of the Ronnie Boatman Scholarship! 🎓

Andrea is the daughter of Beverly, a valued member of the waitstaff team at Holiday Columbia Pines. In the fall, she’ll attend East Tennessee State University to study health services and tech.

The Boatman Scholarship honors the legacy of beloved Atria leader Ronnie Boatman and has awarded nearly $800,000 to help the children and legal dependents of Atria employees pursue higher education.

Congratulations, Andrea – your future is bright, and we’re proud to be cheering you on! 💙

Friends Jan and Vera enjoy chatting and "solving all of the world's problems together," they laugh.

The first few times they saw each other at Holiday Vista de la Montan͂a after Vera moved in, they waved cordially and said hi, but they hadn't had a chance to get to know one another. Then one day, it clicked. "We both finally realized that we have been next door neighbors this whole time. We both just couldn't believe it, and we thought that was so hilarious," Jan says.

"Not only is it great to live in the same community as a really good friend, but to have them as your neighbor is even better," adds Vera. "Every resident should get out more often in the community to talk to other residents because hey, you never know, they just might be your neighbor." 😉

At Holiday Greenwood Terrace, Executive Chef Kristen Schrenk brings more than culinary talent to the table – she brings heart. 💛

With a background that spans fine dining, catering for professional athletes and even a cooking challenge with Gordon Ramsay, Kristen’s career has been nothing short of remarkable. But it’s here, cooking for residents, where she’s found her purpose.

“Whether it’s seniors or celebrities, food is love,” she says. “And if you can share that – on any scale – you’ve won.”

For Kristen, mealtime is about more than nourishment. It’s about comfort, connection and care.

I’m happy to share that power was restored to Montara Meadows early this morning. I want to sincerely thank you for your patience, flexibility, and support during this time. I also want to thank Emergency Management Services, the American Red Cross and the Las Vegas Convention Center for all of their support throughout the power outage.

Residents who went to stay with family or friends are welcome to begin returning to the community as early as 11 am. Please check in at the front desk so we know you’ve returned. For residents currently at the Convention Center, buses will begin to arrive at 9:30 am and we will stagger our residents’ return as buses arrive.

Larry, a 100-year-old resident of Holiday Country Squire, has seen more than most!

As a World War II combat veteran with the 29th Infantry Division, he spent his 20th birthday in a foxhole, dodging bullets on the front lines in Germany. “I had a chunk blown out of the collar of my overcoat,” he recalls. “That’s how close it got.”

Nearly 81 years later, he’s raised a family, cared for his wife through illness, and even run a successful sewing machine business after the war.

Through it all, he has this message to share: War should be avoided, clean living matters and helping others is always worth it.

07/03/2025

We remain without power at the community, and at this time, we do not expect it to be restored today. An Excessive Heat Warning has been placed in our area, and we are working closely with Emergency Services to ensure all residents are safe.

With temperatures expected to climb above 100 degrees today, and the community still without the ability to cool apartments and common area spaces, we ask that residents who have already relocated, either to a hotel, home of a friend or family member, or the Las Vegas Convention Center, remain there.

For the residents who are still at the community, we ask that you please visit either the dining room or one of the charter buses regularly, both to cool off and to ensure your cell phone and Lively device stay charged. We are doing regular apartment visits, but we want to make sure everyone can reach us if they need assistance.

While we do have the dining room and charter buses available, we do not have the ability to keep apartments cool. With today’s forecast in mind, we are strongly encouraging residents to relocate. Whether that’s to the Convention Center or to the home of a loved one, we are happy to help make arrangements to get you there. If you make your own arrangements, just be sure to let General Manager Adriana Falcon or Hospitality Manager Lizzette Holloway know before you depart the community.

As always, please don’t hesitate to call General Manager Adriana Falcon at (702) 423-5753 with any questions or concerns.

The power remains out in our community and surrounding area due to yesterday’s high winds. This afternoon, Emergency Services arrived at the community and are strongly encouraging residents to evacuate to the Las Vegas Convention Center. They have air conditioning, cots, food and water, health services and accommodations for pets on-site at that location.

At this time, it is not a mandatory evacuation, though Emergency Services said that it may become one, especially as they anticipate the power may be out for 2 days or longer. Residents who choose to evacuate are currently leaving the community via bus, and if you miss this round of transportation, we are happy to transport you to the Convention Center later this evening or tomorrow. For those evacuating, please pack everything you’ll need to stay at the Convention Center. We ask that you pack any medications you’ll need for a few days, your Lively device, cell phone and charger, and if you have a pet, ensure they have food and are packed into a carrier, if you have one, for the evacuation.

We also continue to encourage families who are nearby and able to pick up residents. Please call General Manager Adriana Falcon at 702-423-5753 if you plan to do so.

For those who choose to stay at the community, we will continue to have hydration stations on each floor and will be visiting apartments to drop off additional bottled water and to check on residents regularly. We will continue to have buses on-site for cooling and device charging.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please leave a message at 702-423-5753, and the team will get back to you promptly.

At 98 years old, Adeline is living proof that movement is the secret to vitality – and she has no plans to slow down.

“You just have to keep moving,“ she shares. Five days a week, Adeline leads a lively aerobics class for her fellow residents at Holiday Thornton Place. “Every once in a while, there’s a day I don’t feel like it, but the group still shows up – and we go.”

Adeline has lived at the community for nearly a decade. She’s a former VA telephone operator with a sharp sense of humor (yes, she admits to eavesdropping back in the day) and a lifelong seamstress who has crafted more than 90 bridesmaid dresses and several wedding gowns. She’s fluent in German and occasionally calls out exercise reps in her second language, just to keep things interesting.

Still independent and full of energy, Adeline remains the heart of her community.

The power is out in our community and surrounding area due to high winds. The power company currently has no timeline for restoration, but we’re in close contact with them and will keep you informed.

We encourage families who are nearby and able to pick up their loved ones. Please notify a staff member before leaving. We’re happy to assist your family member in getting ready for pick up.

Rest assured, our staff is working hard to ensure our residents remain safe and comfortable. We’re prepared with emergency supplies, and we are regularly checking in on residents.

We will continue to provide updates here and via email.

June’s Taste of England lunch transported residents to Great Britain with a flavorful menu featuring potato leek soup, bangers and mash served with peas and onions, and strawberries & cream. Residents and their friends savored the experience, which was complemented by a screening of the period piece Downton Abbey, which follows the story of the Crawley family from the hit TV show of the same name.

We can't wait to see – and taste – the cuisine from our destination next month!

Elsie has lived through more than a century of history – and she’s still going strong at 101.

Her German ancestors crossed the Atlantic in the 1800s, brewing beer on the ship because, as she puts it, “They believed beer was essential.” Elsie, however, prefers a different vice: a good old-fashioned doughnut. 🍩

During WWII, she worked in the government’s alcohol unit, tracking taxes and double-checking every cent. “It was interesting work,” she says. “We had to be accurate. Every cent mattered.”

Now living at Holiday Country Squire, Elsie remains sharp, active and full of stories worth savoring – maybe over a cruller.
