We often hear of male patients getting a semen analysis, but not everyone knows what we might be looking for. Here's the breakdown ➡️
VOLUME 🧪
How much semen was produced in the sample? We're looking for at least 1.5 milliliters, or about half a teaspoon. A smaller sample size could be indicative of other possible issues that we can help you resolve.
S***M COUNT🔎
How many s***m are there per milliliter of semen? In order to conceive, at least 15 million s***m per milliliter of semen is ideal.
MOTILITY💪
Are the s***m moving around as they should? S***m need to be able to swim toward an egg, and in order to do so, need to swim efficiently (in straight lines or large circles). S***m that move in tiny circles, too slowly, or don't move at all, are not ideal for conception.
MORPHOLOGY📏
Are they the correct shape and size? A normal s***m has an oval head, neck, midsection, and tail. S***m with head shape abnormalities, bent necks, and broken or duplicate tails are unlikely to make it to the egg.
When we do a semen analysis, we check all these parameters to help get to the root of the issue. For IVF, we use this process to select only the best possible s***m to create your embryos in our state-of-the-art laboratory. Our goal is to help each patient achieve a healthy pregnancy and finally get their dream baby in their arms ❤️
