Milia (singular: milium) are small, white or yellowish bumps that typically appear on the skin, especially around the eyes, nose, and cheeks. They form when keratin, a protein found in skin, hair, and nails, becomes trapped beneath the surface of the skin.

Key Facts About Milia:
   •   Common in all ages: Found in newborns (often called “baby acne,” though it’s not true acne), children, and adults.
   •   Non-inflammatory: Milia are not red, swollen, or painful like pimples.
   •   Not caused by bacteria or clogged pores, so they aren’t acne.
   •   Often mistaken for whiteheads, but they’re firmer and can’t be squeezed out easily.
   •   Harmless and usually painless.

Types of Milia:
1. Primary milia: Develops spontaneously and is common in babies and adults.
2. Secondary milia: Occurs after skin trauma, burns, or certain skin treatments (e.g., laser resurfacing or dermabrasion).

Treatment Options:
   •   Often resolve on their own, especially in babies.
   •   In adults, they may persist and can be removed by a dermatologist or skin therapist via:
      •   Sterile extraction
      •   Topical retinoids
      •   Chemical peels
