THIS is why I choose a different way of life than I did before. While there is a lot of information listed below, I highly encourage you to just take these statistics into consideration when it comes to you, your children, your parents, your pets, and yourself.
All of this came from the book "The Hundred Year Lie - How to Protect Yourself from the Chemicals That Are Destroying Your Health" by Randall Fitzgerald. If you're interested in digging in more, I recommend getting the book. Listed in the book are five toxic phases of life and the harmful toxins for each phase.
Five Toxic Phases of Life
Phase One: Fetal Development
Air Pollution - A 2005 study by Columbia University biologists found that prenatal exposure to pollutants was linked to genetic changes associated with an increased risk of cancer later in life.
Household chemicals - A research team at the University of Bristol in Britain found in 2004 that children whose mothers made frequent use of chemical-based domestic products🧼 during pregnancy were more likely to develop asthma after birth. This study helps to explain why the incidence of childhood asthma had tripled in many industrialized countries since the 1970s.
Everyday Conveniences - A 2004 study of ten randomly chosen babies born in the US analyzed their umbilical cord blood and found an average of two hundred synthetic chemicals, including chemicals from food packaging, flame retardants 🧯from furniture and appliances, and the Teflon chemical PFOA. Nearly every one of the chemicals has been linked to either cancer, brain and nervous system disorders, birth defects, or developmental problems.
Food contamination - Mercury contamination of US waterways is so widespread that forty states have issued health advisories for pregnant women or women of reproductive age. Mercury, along with the PCBs and chlorinated pesticides, has been shown to disrupt the endocrine system, which manages hormones in the body.

Phase Two: Childhood
Food Additives - Behaviors connected to synthetic food additives include short attention span, restlessness, irritability, aggressiveness, and excitability. 🍭
Breast Milk - A 2005 study of lactating women in eighteen US states found the toxin perchlorate in practically every mother's milk. Perchlorate is a toxic component of rocket fuel and it's known to adversely affect the thyroid and other glands of your body.
Infant Formula - Simply put, baby bodies are not designed to absorb synthetic chemicals and many medical professionals point to infant formula as a primary cause of allergies in infants. 🍼
Childhood Vaccinations - A 1999 United States Public Health Service warning confirmed that routine vaccinations💉 are exposing many infants to quantities of mercury well above government health guidelines.
Household Dust - Even though lead paints 🎨 were banned in the US in 1978, it's still in millions of homes. This may help to explain why 1 in 6 US children tests as having high levels of lead in their blood.
Play Areas - This is one that blows my mind! Pressure treated wood used on outdoor decks, picnic tables, and playground equipment contains high levels of arsenic, according to the Environmental Working Group. A 12-foot section of pressure treated lumber contains about an ounce of arsenic, enough to poison 250 people😯. It is estimated that at least one in every five hundred children who regularly play on playground equipment or decks will develop cancer later in life as a result of this exposure. And don't get me started about the dangers of oil based stains. My own dog Dali developed seizure like activity after going on my newly stained deck. The smell alone should have clued me into the dangers. I waited the recommended drying time, but their little paws are like sponges, and everything they step on is quickly absorbed in the blood stream. I lost her just a few years after to cancer. Now I think about everything I introduce into their world, and do my best to keep chemicals out of it.
Food Packaging - Blood testing has found the highest concentrations of PFOAs in children six years of age and younger and in persons sixty years of age and older. Teflon molecules can persist in the human body for an entire lifetime.

Phase Three: Teenage Years
Processed Foods - If you became a hot-dog🌭 fanatic as a child or teenager and consumed a dozen or more each month, preservative chemicals found in the meat 🥓may have bioaccumulated and sharply elevated your risk of developing leukemia.
Overprescribed Antibiotics - On average, every teenager in the US receives at least one prescription for 💊 antibiotics every year. 90% of sore throats are viral and unresponsive to antibiotics. Immune systems are then weakened by the overuse of antibiotics.
Personal- Care Products - Some of the ingredients in these products affect hormone levels and lead to mood swings and have other effects on behavior and mental acuity. 🧴

Phase Four: Adulthood
Meat Hormones - If you consumed meat regularly between 1947 and 1977, especially beef, you were exposed to increasing levels of the s*x hormone DES, which causes cancer.
Food Additives - Usage of diet drinks and food products containing aspartame have exposed you to the risk of 88 symptoms of toxcicity, as identified by the US Department of Health and Human Services. These range from allergies and headaches to more serious maladies affecting the nervous system.
Cosmetic Use - The FDA estimates that about 65 percent of women's cosmetics contain potentially carcinogenic ingredients. 💄 Our skin is our largest organ, what you apply to it is quickly absorbed, and goes right to the blood stream.
Occupational Hazards - Researchers at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health studied more than 2.6 million US death records and in 2005 reached the conclusion that farmers and welders have a higher incidence of Parkinson's disease, hair dressers and aircraft mechanics are at a higher risk of Alzheimer's, and veterinarians and graders and sorters have the highest risk of dying from ALS.

Phase Five: Senior Years
Prescription Drugs - Taking prescription drugs over extended periods of time depletes your body of essential nutrients which, unless they are replaced with supplements, result in suppression of proper immune system functioning.
Tap Water Bioaccumulation - The lifetime ingestion of fluoride from tap water bioaccumulates in the bones and makes them more brittle.
New Car Smells - VOCs. All these years you have been inhaling and absorbing a chemical brew of volatile organic compounds composed of such cancer-causing chemicals as styrene and formaldehyde. These gases are even more dangerous on hot days when the windows are rolled up and the air conditioner is operating.
👍There is good news. You aren't in this battle alone. You can either choose to acknowledge the disastrous chemical soup we live in every day or you can choose to ignore it and let it harm you. Friends, there's a lot of carcinogens out there. There are lot of things messing with our hormones and endocrine systems. Let's do something about it! I am certainly far from perfect in this, and probably never will be, but acknowledging the issue and taking steps to reduce the chemicals in my home is a good beginning. From replacing plastics, to using "real" natural chemical free soaps, cosmetics, cleaners and more, I know I can make a difference. Having these products infused with natural plants is such a bonus. Oh the health benefits of nature. 🌿🌹🍃 (Be careful of greenwashed companies claiming to be natural) 😡 There are detoxes, antioxidants, and diet changes that your body will forever thank you for. Let's jump into 2020 with our eyes wide open to how we can treat our bodies better. This is more than exercise and losing weight. This is about caring for your body, and letting it do it's job keeping you healthy and strong. The body is a powerful thing made to protect itself.
Do you know someone who needs the products we know and love to help their bodies detox and get stronger? There is a better way.
We can't hide from the virus and from all these chemicals that bombard us, but we can take steps to protect ourselves and our families. It's never too late. I've made a conscientious decision to remove as many synthetics and chemicals from my personal environment as I possibly can, and you can too, just one step at a thyme. Let's help protect our bodies.
I commend you if you made it to the end of this long winded post, but it is my passion to share and help others kick chemicals to the curb.
