The 49-year-old actress, known for her roles in ‘Married with Children’, ‘Anchorman’, and ‘Dead to Me’, announced on Twitter today that she was diagnosed with MS a few months ago. “It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going.”

Actress Christina Applegate has announced that she has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Multiple sclerosis affects the central nervous system and is considered an autoimmune disease.

The health and welfare of our patients is our utmost concern. For the next few weeks, at least, we have adopted the following policies:

1. We are not allowing families or visitors to accompany patients unless needed for assistance.

2. If you feel you may be ill in any way, especially with a respiratory illness (sneezing, coughing, fever, etc.), STAY HOME. Reschedule your appointment for when the illness has resolved.

3. We are cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces four times daily and in 15 minute intervals if they are touched.

4. We will be wearing masks and gloves *and so will all patients*.

5. We do NOT use drugs that suppress the immune system for MS control. But we do not wish any greater exposure to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) *OR* the seasonal flu if possible.

Being here in a safe environment continues to be our top priority.

Every second Wednesday of the month, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, we hold an MS Support group here in the office, hosted by our infusion nurse Samantha Belcher, RN. All patients, family, and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. Our first meeting of the year will be TONIGHT, January 8. It’s a great opportunity to connect with others living with MS, so we hope to see you there!

Dr. Keith Edwards has been a supporter of WAMS (Women Against MS) since its early days. He is a physician who believes passionately in stopping MS in its tracks through proper diagnostics and pharmaceuticals. He operates both the MS Center of Northeastern NY and Empire Neurology with specialties in Multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimer’s Disease. Dr. Edwards sees patients on a regular basis and is equally passionate about research. He is currently running active trials for both secondary progressive MS and memory disorders/Alzheimer’s.

I recently spent a morning with Dr. Edwards at his new location on Troy-Schenectady Road in Latham. I learned about emerging trends in MS research and spoke to Dr. Edwards about his upcoming educational trip to ECTRIMS in Berlin. I left the visit feeling both inspired and lucky. I felt inspired by the rapid progress we are making with regard to recent and upcoming treatment options in neurology,… and lucky that we have a resource like Dr. Edwards in our Capital Region community!
