APTA New York is celebrating the signing of the PTA Supervision bill!

Thank you to Senator Stavisky and Assemblyman Hyndman for helping move this forward. This modernization of supervision requirements takes effect November 21, 2026—and we’ll keep you updated as SED develops the regulations.

The Department of Education is reviewing what counts as a “professional degree”—and a draft definition could leave the DPT out.

That would mean fewer federal loan options for DPT students and new barriers to entering our profession at a time when we can’t afford more shortages.

Nothing is final, and we still have the chance to influence the outcome. APTA is working with federal partners and Congress, but we need your voice too.
