Charles W. Mounce, Jr., lovingly known by many as "Hot Rod Charlie," passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025, in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the age of 53. Born on July 19, 1972, in Covington, Kentucky, Charlie lived a life defined by creativity, grit, and an unwavering devotion to his craft. A gifted artist with a spirit all his own, Charlie was the owner, operator, and driving force behind Hot Rod Charlie's Tattoo Shops. His steady hand, boundless imagination, and ability to capture stories in ink earned him a respected place not only in the tattooing community but also in the lives of countless clients who trusted him with their most meaningful expressions. For Charlie, tattooing was far more than an occupation-it was a calling, a connection, and a way to leave beauty in the world. Beyond his work, Charlie will be remembered for his big heart, sharp humor, and the unmistakable presence he brought into every room. Whether he was sketching a new design, offering a word of encouragement, or sharing a laugh, he did so with authenticity and warmth. His legacy is etched not only on the skin of those he tattooed but also in the memories of those who loved him. Preceding Charlie in death was his father, Charles Mounce, Sr. and his sister, Sarah Mounce. Those left surviving to carry on Charlie's memory include his partner, Shanda Roaden; mother and her husband, Wilma and Alford Pop; sons, Charles Alan Mounce and Ford Warren Charles Mounce; brother, Josh Mounce; grandchildren, Charlie and Jasper; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, clients and friends. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Charlie's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital c/o www.stjude.org. Charlie's time here ended far too soon, but the impact he made-through his art, his passion, and the relationships he forged-will remain indelible.
