Whiplash is a neck injury caused by a sudden and forceful back-and-forth movement of the head, most commonly resulting from car accidents, sports injuries, or falls. Symptoms can include neck pain, stiffness, headaches, dizziness, and sometimes pain radiating into the shoulders or arms. Chiropractic care is frequently sought as a non-invasive treatment option for individuals suffering from whiplash.
Whiplash injuries primarily affect the muscles, ligaments, nerves, and vertebrae in the neck. The abrupt movement can cause microscopic tears and inflammation, leading to pain and restricted motion. Symptoms may develop immediately after the incident or may appear several hours or days later. Early assessment and appropriate care are essential for optimal recovery.
Chiropractic care offers a holistic, non-surgical approach to managing symptoms and supporting recovery. If you or someone you know is experiencing whiplash symptoms, and you are looking to heal and regain normal function, give us a call at 406-628-9322.

Posture refers to the way we hold our bodies while standing, sitting, or moving. Good posture aligns the bones and joints so that muscles are used efficiently, minimizing the risk of strain or injury. Poor posture, on the other hand, can contribute to a variety of health issues, affecting not just our physical well-being but also our mental and emotional health.

Physical Health Benefits of Good Posture
• Reduces Back and Neck Pain: Maintaining proper posture keeps the spine in correct alignment, reducing strain on the back and neck muscles, and lowering the risk of chronic pain.
• Improves Breathing: Good posture opens up the chest cavity, allowing the lungs to expand fully and making breathing more efficient.
• Enhances Digestion: Sitting and standing up straight can help keep digestive organs in their proper position, promoting better digestion and preventing issues such as acid reflux.
• Decreases Risk of Joint Problems: Proper posture helps distribute body weight evenly, reducing excessive wear and tear on the joints.
• Boosts Circulation: When the body is aligned, blood circulates more freely, which helps deliver oxygen and nutrients throughout the body.

Common Causes of Poor Posture
• Sitting for long periods, especially with inadequate back support
• Using electronic devices in a slouched position ("tech neck")
• Weak core or back muscles
• Wearing high heels or unsupportive footwear
• Stress, which can cause muscle tension and slumping

Tips for Improving Posture
1. Be mindful: Regularly check your posture throughout the day, especially when sitting at a desk or using a phone.
2. Set up your workspace: Adjust your chair, desk, and monitor so that your back is supported and your feet are flat on the floor.
3. Strengthen core muscles: Exercise routines that target your core can help you maintain proper posture.
4. Take breaks: Stand up and stretch every 30-60 minutes to relieve muscle tension and reset your posture.
5. Use reminders: Sticky notes or phone alarms can prompt you to sit or stand tall throughout the day.

Good posture is more than just standing up straight—it is a foundation for optimal health. By being aware of how you hold your body and making small adjustments throughout the day, you can reduce discomfort, boost energy, and improve your overall well-being. Taking simple steps to maintain good posture can have lasting benefits for your body and mind.

Lifting objects is a common activity at home and work, but improper technique can lead to injuries, especially to the back. Following safe lifting practices helps protect your body and ensures you handle loads efficiently.

1. Before lifting, check the weight and size of the object. If it seems too heavy or awkward, seek help or use mechanical aids like dollies or carts.
2. Position yourself correctly- stand close to the object with your feet shoulder-width apart for stability. Make sure your footing is secure and the path is clear.
3. Bend your knees, not your back
4. Squat down by bending at your knees and hips, keeping your back straight. Avoid bending over at the waist.
5. Lift the object using your legs.
6. Push up with your legs, not your back, keeping the object close to your body. Avoid twisting while lifting.
7. Keep the load close to your body- holding the object close reduces strain on your back and makes it easier to balance.
8. Walk slowly and make sure you can see where you are going. Avoid sudden movements or twisting your torso.
9. Set Down the Load Properly- to lower the object, reverse the lifting process: bend your knees and keep your back straight as you set it down
Proper lifting technique is essential for preventing injuries and ensuring safe handling of objects. Always prioritize safety, use your legs—not your back—to lift, and ask for assistance when needed. By following these guidelines, you can lift effectively and protect your health.

Healthy habits are like seeds: small actions taken consistently yield significant results over time. Establishing routines such as regular exercise, balanced nutrition, adequate sleep and chiropractic care can dramatically reduce the risk of chronic diseases and improve quality of life as we age. For example, choosing whole foods over processed snacks or taking a brisk walk daily contributes to heart health and maintains muscle strength.
Preventive measures are investments in future health. By catching potential issues early and addressing them proactively, we avoid more severe complications later. This proactive approach is similar to weeding and watering a garden: regular care prevents problems that can hinder growth.
Planting seeds for mental health is equally important. Practices like mindfulness, journaling, or seeking support from friends and professionals nurture resilience and emotional stability. Just as a neglected garden can become overrun with weeds, ignoring our mental health can lead to stress, anxiety, or depression. Taking time now to cultivate positive thoughts and relationships pays dividends in future happiness and peace of mind.
~Small Steps, Big Results~
It’s easy to underestimate the power of small, everyday choices. Drinking enough water, standing up to stretch during work hours, or prioritizing time for hobbies may seem insignificant, but these habits collectively shape our long-term health. Over time, the “harvest” of these efforts is seen in lower healthcare costs, higher energy levels, and a more fulfilling life.

The seeds we plant for our health today—through mindful choices and consistent self-care—grow into the benefits we enjoy in the future. By taking proactive steps now, we ensure a bountiful harvest of wellness, vitality, and happiness in the years to come. The journey to better health begins with the decisions we make right now.

The holidays are always a whirlwind of activity. Between shopping for gifts, wrapping those gifts, cooking holiday meals, chasing after kids, and hauling what feels like dozens of Amazon boxes into the house, it’s easy to forget about taking care of yourself.
Your spine deserves a little Christmas magic too! With so much bending, lifting, and rushing around, your back can easily become stiff, tense, or feel out of alignment.
If you’ve noticed discomfort or tightness, now is the ideal time to get adjusted before the holiday rush reaches its peak. A little attention to your body now can make all the difference, helping you stay comfortable and energized for all your holiday activities. Your body will thank you!

Our Story

Our Mission: Natural healthcare excellence for your family and our community.

Hold on now; let’s take a step back to see how a farm kid from Wisconsin developed this kind of a mission in life! Here is my story: When I was a sophomore in high school I got a stinger in my neck one day in footballpractice. I still remember it clearly… the guy who hit me was nicknamed Bubba! It hurt a lot, but soon went away. By the next year I started to have problems with my right shoulder dislocating. By the time I came home from college for the summer of my sophomore year I couldn’t even raise my arm high enough to give my mother a hug! She suggested that I see her Chiropractor (strange, I thought my Mother didn’t like Chiropractors?)! Well, I went, and my arm got better! And, my bench press that hadn’t gone up in 3 ½ years went up 35 pounds that summer! I was more excited than ever to play football again. At this time in my life I was desperately trying to figure out what in the world I was going to do with my chemistry major that was actually going to help people. Well, after my Chiropractic experience, I knew exactly what I was supposed to do. After receiving my Bachelors Degree in chemistry I enrolled at Palmer College of Chiropractic so I could help a sick and suffering humanity that wasn’t getting much help from the “real” Doctors. Four years later I graduated with honors from Palmer and began practicing Chiropractic. Eventually I met my wife, Colleen, and now we’ve been married for 18 years. We have two very wonderful and healthy children. Donald is 17 years old, and Chloe is 15 years old. This is where the story gets interesting! When Chloe was born things were not right. She was limp, lifeless, blue and not breathing well. She had to be put under an oxygen tent immediately! After about two hours I thought that I had better go check on her and see how she was doing. The nurse said that she was still struggling, and for the first time I got scared. I knelt down by her table and took her little hand in mine and told her how much I loved her and that she could do it. She had to! That’s when I noticed that her head was twisted and cocked to the right. I repositioned it only to have it immediately go back to the same position, like it was on springs. As a chiropractor, I knew immediately this was not right or okay! I decided right then that I would give her a very gentle and loving adjustment. Immediately after that adjustment I watched as her oxygen level climbed steadily, and within ten minutes she was cuddling with her mother for the first time!

What about all of the babies and their parents out there who have similar birth experiences who don’t know what Chiropractic is and what it offers their family? These parents will wonder why their child is constantly sick, or “fails to thrive”, or doesn’t develop like their supposed to, or isn’t quite as sharp as their brother or sister. Most of the problems we see in adults started in childhood, and a lot of those problems begin with the birth process.

I enjoy spending time with my family, especially in the great outdoors. I also enjoy studying and learning about human beings, the body, the mind, and the connection between them, as well as improving my own body and mind. I strive to learn and be the best. I want all my patients to rave about the quality of care I provide for them… and it’s not about back pain and headaches. No. It is about wellness, being the best you can be! Chiropractic is a purpose that comes from the heart, but it takes two hearts, yours and mine. We work together as a team. Let’s begin by getting you better health for a life that is more enjoyable and satisfying.
