Important policy change regarding GLP-1 medications effective Jan 1, 2026

Dear Patient,

We understand that for many patients GLP-1 medications can be an important part of their healthcare. Due to increasing insurance requirements and frequent coverage denials, effective January 1, 2026 we will no longer submit prior authorization requests for GLP-1 medications unless the patient has diabetes, has had a heart attack, or has had heart bypass surgery.

Even if we have successfully obtained a prior authorization for a GLP-1 medication in the past, we will no longer pursue future prior authorizations after 1/1/2026.

If a GLP-1 is prescribed for any other reason, such as for weight management, and your insurance company chooses not to cover the medication, you may choose to pay out of pocket. Please understand that Insurance companies may tell you that the medication is covered with a prior authorization, however, they rarely approve such requests.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for our patients and we appreciate your understanding.

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation: this helps with getting to medical appointments, food pantries
Senior Transportation: Services are available in many communities to help older adults get around.
Disability-Related Transportation: Many communities offer transportation services for individuals with disabilities.
Ride United: In some areas, like Greater Baltimore, this initiative provides free Lyft rides for eligible 211 callers who lack other transportation options.

Food and nutrition help (food pantries, SNAP/WIC information)
Utility assistance: help with electric, gas, water bills and programs to avoid shut-offs.
Housing stability: rental support, eviction prevention, homeless shelters, transitional housing.
Support for older adults / persons with disabilities: equipment reuse (walkers), respite care, caregiver support.
Mental health / crisis referrals.

MedPeds has added a service that will text you if you can save money on prescriptions by choosing a different pharmacy.

To take advantage of the savings, watch for a text from healow and click the link and follow the prompts. You have 30 minutes to respond. Then, just show the coupon displayed on your phone to the pharmacy to receive the discount, If you do nothing, the prescription will be forwarded to the original pharmacy.

One recent patient had an opportunity to save over $100 one one medication! Healow will only send a text if the savings are $2 or more. We don't want to bother you if the savings are less than $2.

We've heard from you that our kiosk questionnaires take too long. We understand.

If you complete the important visit questionnaires a few days before your visit in your patient portal account, you can skip the kiosk. Just let the receptionist know you've already completed the questionnaires and ask her to check you in manually.

We do need all questions answered ahead of time, however, so don't skip it or your visit may take longer. Thank you!

January 7, we are opening late at noon due to hazardous driving conditions. All morning appointments are canceled and must be rescheduled. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Medpeds is closed today. With continued snow and freezing temperatures it's not safe to travel. All appointments are canceled and will need to be rescheduled.

Due to expected snow, MedPeds plans to open at 10 am on January 6, 2025. Appointments prior to 10 am are now canceled.

Hello MedPeds patients!

Its been a while, so we wanted to check in with everyone. We hope everyone has had a great summer!

Good news! Our patient portal now allows you to attach JPG and PDF documents when you compose a message to us. This is a huge time-saver for our patients and something we have been asking for from our software company.

If you have not yet been seen in 2024 and do not have an appointment, please call now to schedule a visit, hopefully, before the end of the year. We like to see our patients at least once a year for an annual visit. We encourage everyone to try to schedule your next visit before leaving the office whenever possible.

Also, please take care of yourselves, Covid has been on the rise since the summer, and now that temperatures begin to get cooler and everyone spends more time indoors, consider wearing a mask in crowded indoor public spaces such as schools, work, shopping and religious services,

Also, make sure you are on the schedule to get a flu and covid shot this fall.

Now is the best time to call and schedule your annual checkups. Cold and flu season is over now, and most of our providers have appointments available in the next week and through August.

We can also complete any sports or school forms for the upcoming year at the same time. As we get nearer to the end of summer, it will be harder to get an appointment, so give us a call at 301-498-8880 this week.

Now that flu season is over, this is the best time to schedule your annual well adult or well child visit before demand picks up in September. Most of our providers have time available as soon as next week!

Also, for kids make sure you bring with you any school or sports forms. With a summer visit, the signed forms will be good for the entire upcoming school year!!
