ATR vs ADR: What’s the Difference?
A quick breakdown of African Traditional Religions & African Diaspora Religions 🌍✨

“African spirituality” is not one single religion. It is a vast collection of spiritual systems, cultures, sciences, ancestor traditions, and ritual technologies developed by African people across the continent and throughout the Diaspora.

In Hoodoo, conjure, and folk magic, black salt is one of the oldest protective and reversing spiritual tools used to absorb negativity, send harmful energy away, create boundaries, and spiritually “dirty up” a path so crossed conditions cannot comfortably remain. Unlike culinary black salt, conjure black salt is made for spiritual work and protection.

Traditionally, Black Salt is used for: 🖤 Protection work
🖤 Reversal and uncrossing work
🖤 Sending back negativity
🖤 Boundary protection around the home
🖤 Banishing unwanted energy or people
🖤 Foot track work and warding
🖤 Ancestor protection at doorways and altars

Many Rootworkers sprinkle it across thresholds, windows, property lines, around candles, inside spell jars, or carry a pinch in protective talismans and witch bottles. Some place it behind doors or under doormats to keep harmful spirits, gossip, jealousy, and enemies out of the home.

Traditional ingredients can vary by worker and lineage, but Black Salt is commonly crafted with ingredients such as: 🖤 Salt
🖤 Ashes from protective herbs or incense
🖤 Charcoal
🖤 Protective roots and herbs
🖤 Pepper
🖤 Sulfur-based minerals in some traditions
🖤 Ritual remnants from protection workings

Every worker has their own method and spirit they breathe into it. That’s what makes handcrafted spiritual supplies powerful — intention, prayer, ancestral connection, and tradition.

At Oja Aje Apothecary and Botanica we make our Black Salt in house with intention, prayer, and traditional conjure influence. Crafted for protection, reversal, spiritual defense, and serious rootwork.

Stop by the shop or order online and add this staple to your spiritual arsenal. Every Rootworker should keep Black Salt nearby. 🖤 ゚viral

🌰 Buckeyes in Rootwork, Hoodoo & Folk Tradition 🌰

A buckeye is the nut of the buckeye tree, closely related to the chestnut. Across many parts of the South and Midwest, people carried buckeyes in their pockets, purses, bras, mojo bags, and wallets for generations as a symbol of luck, protection, prosperity, and steady money flow.

In Black folk traditions, Hoodoo, Appalachian folk magic, and Southern conjure, the buckeye became known as a powerful “money-drawing hand.” Many elders taught that carrying a buckeye keeps your pockets from going empty and helps attract opportunities, resources, and financial stability. Some people wrap it in a dollar bill, feed it with money oil, or keep it near silver coins to “keep money multiplying.”

I remember carrying one when I was a child, then a teenager, then a young adult… and honestly, I still carry one now. Wrapped in a dollar bill. Fed with intention. A simple folk practice passed down through generations.

The buckeye is also believed to: ✨ Draw luck and prosperity
✨ Protect against poverty and hard times
✨ Keep steady cash flow coming in
✨ Bring gambling luck in some traditions
✨ Serve as a pocket talisman for success and favor
✨ Ground and stabilize your energy around finances

Many rootworkers anoint buckeyes with condition oils like money drawing, prosperity, cinnamon, or attraction oils. Some keep three together in a red flannel bag with pyrite, lodestones, cinnamon, or High John root to strengthen the work.

This is the beauty of folk magic and ancestral traditions. Sometimes the most powerful workings are simple, practical, and carried daily. A buckeye in the pocket. A prayer whispered over your wallet. A dollar wrapped around a seed with faith attached to it.

That’s real folk tradition. 🌰💵 NOW AVAILABLE AT OJA AJE APOTHECARY AND BOTANICA

In traditional Hoodoo and rootwork, camphor has long been used as a powerful spiritual cleansing, protective, and uncrossing ingredient. That sharp smell? It cuts through stagnant energy and “wakes up” a space spiritually. Our elders used camphor in the home, on the altar, in spiritual baths, and even carried it for protection and luck. 🔥 Papa Candelo is one of the most fiery, respected, and feared spirits within Dominican and Afro-Caribbean spiritual traditions, especially in the 21 Divisions (Las 21 Divisiones), Dominican Vudú, and syncretic African diasporic spirituality. He is often understood as a powerful Misterio connected to fire, lightning, war, masculine force, justice, transformation, and explosive spiritual power.

His roots reflect the blending of African spiritual systems carried through enslavement into the Caribbean, especially influences from Kongo, Yoruba, and Haitian Vodou traditions, mixed with Catholic imagery and Dominican folk spirituality. Many associate Papa Candelo with Saint Charles Borromeo and fiery warrior spirits. In some lineages he is linked with powers similar to Ṣàngó/Changó because of the connection to thunder, fire, virility, authority, and justice.

Papa Candelo is not a “gentle” spirit. He is movement. He is heat. He is the fire that burns away enemies, blockages, stagnation, lies, and weakness. People go to him for: 🔥 Protection
🔥 Court cases & justice
🔥 Strength & domination
🔥 Road opening
🔥 Courage & masculine energy
🔥 Breaking spiritual attacks
🔥 Passion, vitality & power
🔥 Financial movement and opportunity

Traditionally, devotees approach him with deep respect, discipline, and cleanliness. He is often honored with: 🕯️ Red candles
🌶️ Spicy foods
🍷 Red wine
🥃 Rum
🚬 Ci**rs
🍎 Red apples
🔥 Cinnamon & cloves
⚔️ Metal objects, swords, machetes
🌹 Red flowers

Many pray to Papa Candelo for strength during difficult times, asking him to “burn away” obstacles and illuminate hidden enemies. Songs, drumming, prayers, and offerings are often given on Mondays, Fridays, or days connected to fire and spiritual warfare depending on lineage.

A simple prayer often spoken from the heart may sound like:

“Papa Candelo, spirit of sacred fire and power, remove darkness from my path. Burn away every enemy, obstacle, and evil eye standing before me. Give me courage, strength, wisdom, and victorious movement. May your fire light my road and protect my spirit.” 🔥
