This is how Saturdays are supposed to feel!

Good energy. Good releases. Great smiles!

Meet Marcia—Sankofa has been part of her Saturdays since 2019. You’ll find her after her morning walk, enjoying a class, grabbing a juice, and then heading off to enjoy the rest of her day.

So… what’s your Saturday yoga ritual?

In honor of MLK Day, let’s take a moment to reflect on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s incredible journey as a leader rooted in ahimsa—the principle of nonviolence. Inspired by Gandhi’s teachings, Dr. King traveled to India to deepen his understanding of peaceful resistance, strengthening his vision of justice grounded in love and compassion.

For Dr. King, nonviolence wasn’t just a strategy—it was a way of life, embodying the power of love and community to transform oppression into freedom.

As we honor his legacy, let’s ask ourselves: How can we embody ahimsa in our own lives to create a more just and compassionate world? Let’s continue the work. ✊🏾

They say you never forget the first day someone walks into Sankofa—and we definitely haven’t forgotten Franklin’s!

250 classes later and he’s still showing up with a gentle spirit, a warm smile, and—let’s be honest—a cup of tea always in hand. A true Sankofa staple. A kind gentleman. A reminder that consistency is a love language.

If you’ve been to the studio, you know Franklin. And if you see him this week, don’t be shy—give him a big hello, a nod, a hug, or a “we see you, king.”

Congratulations, Franklin. Thank you for growing with us. We’re better because you’re here. 🫶🏾

We’re excited to share that Sankofa Yoga & Wellness Center has been awarded a contract by the Howard County Health Department to launch the Sankofa Maternal Wellness Initiative.

This community-based program will provide no-cost support for pregnant and postpartum Howard County residents, with a focus on wellness, emotional support, and family education. The initiative includes weekly prenatal yoga and educational workshops, maternal support groups (in-person and virtual), and family-centered workshops designed to strengthen support systems during pregnancy and postpartum.

Grateful for the opportunity to serve families in our community and build programming that is accessible, culturally grounded, and rooted in care.
