What should I expect at my first class?

That first class can feel a little awkward—maybe you’re in the back of the room, maybe you’re on your mat at home, trying to figure out which foot goes where and why everyone else seems to know what’s happening. Totally normal.

Yoga isn’t about getting it “right.” It’s about showing up.

Even in that very first class, you’ll likely notice something shift. A little more space in your body. A little more ease in your breath. A sense of lightness you didn’t have when you walked in. That comes from the combination of movement and breath, stretching muscles, but also calming the nervous system.

You might feel sore later and that’s okay too. It just means you woke up muscles that haven’t been asked to work in a while.

But the real magic? It’s not just physical.

We carry stress everywhere…our shoulders, hips, jaw…sometimes in ways we don’t even realize. Yoga has a way of gently releasing that. For some people, that can feel surprisingly emotional. For others, it just feels like relief. Both are welcome here.

If you’re starting out, keep it simple:
✨ Drink water
✨ Move slowly
✨ Take breaks
✨ And most importantly—go at YOUR pace

There is no “keeping up” in yoga.

Yoga is for every body. Exactly as you are, right now.

Things I hear as a yoga instructor...
☝️"I'm not flexible enough for yoga!"
☝️"I'm too old for yoga!"
☝️"I can't even touch my toes, so I can't go to yoga!"
☝️" My balance is terrible, I can't do yoga"

These are just some the reasons you GO to yoga!
Attending regular classes helps to increase, strength, balance, flexibility, better sleep, better posture, reduce stress, lower your blood pressure, slow cellular aging, boost circulation, protect your joints, lower cholesterol, decreased pain, alleviate arthritis stiffness and pain and create stronger bones. ( And those are just a couple reasons! 😉)
Join us for a class! All of our classes are geared for beginners and allow full use of yoga props. We offer demonstrated, detailed instruction and modifications for every class, to ensure that whatever your fitness level, body type, or mobility limitation we make sure that the class is adaptable to YOU!

Let’s talk about it. 👀

Yoga isn’t about proving how flexible you are.
It’s not about taking the hardest variation.
And it’s definitely not about grinding your teeth through a pose just to say you did it.

If your breath disappears…
If your jaw tightens…
If your shoulders creep up to your ears…

That’s your body whispering, “Hey. Come back.”

The “advanced” version of a pose is the one where:
✨ You can breathe steadily.
✨ Your face is soft.
✨ You feel strong and steady.
✨ You leave class feeling better than when you walked in.

At Namaste Studio, we don’t measure progress by how deep you go. We measure it by awareness. By control. By connection.

Sometimes the most advanced thing you can do…is back off.

Yoga for everyBODY means honoring your body.
Not muscling through it.
