was yesterday, but I was a little busy. So I’m posting today to show love for the many opportunities I’ve been afforded as a woman in sports. It hasn’t always been easy, some days it has taken more than it gave, but it always calls me back. I’m grateful to continue this work in “unique” ways as my skills continue to grow. And my goal will always be to open more doors for those coming behind me. Im thankful for and all of those who have mentored me along the way!

The look on face after her first jump during the qualifying rounds when she realized that she hit a PB, had the best jump@of the night so far and set a National Record. Now to rest and recover for the Finals on Sunday!

Just to be clear. We believe that black lives matter just as much as every other life! We just want to be heard and treated as if we do. Be safe, keep fighting, we’re in this for the long haul!

New year, new decade means we get a chance to try again! Don’t look back, set your sights on what lies ahead and work hard to achieve your goals. But, in all of the planning and doing, make time to rest, be still, listen, and leave some room for God to do what you cannot do on your own!

just a reminder this morning not to be so hard on yourself. Anyone can change jobs, relationships, careers, or even location overnight. And, truth be told, sometimes that’s necessary. However, REAL life-altering transitions take time. There is a process that comes when you decide to alter the trajectory of your life in a way that is purposeful, and it cannot be rushed. Old things must be cleared away in order for new things to grow, and the right people & circumstances must be put into place so that what’s coming can prosper. The same goes for healing from an injury vs a surgery...it just takes time and you cannot “speed up” the process. I know some PTs/professionals who try to give patients/athletes activities that their body simply isn’t ready for yet. A strong foundation must be built first- and yes that’s often the boring part. But take the time to get the basics mastered before moving on to the complex, because then you’ll be able to sustain the demands, and do so more efficiently. Know which phase you’re in and act accordingly. It’s ok to be patient and not rush to “beat the clock”. The beauty is often found in the journey.

So often young professionals and experienced pros looking to switch lanes ask me “how much work should I do for free?” The short answer is: as little as possible. However, we know that in some situations volunteering may be one of the best ways to learn, make connections and market yourself or your business. So the question I always ask myself is “is this service or slavery?”- meaning, how much time will I take me to prepare and participate? what resources if my own will I be using? What is the expected future benefit? And, lastly, how does this event make me FEEL? That one is important because if I wake up the morning of the event and regret saying yes or my gut isn’t settled about it, it’s probably slavery. So, there is no right or wrong answer because you have to consider everything case by case no matter how much experience you have. I will say, however, that every big position I was ever offered started with a volunteer moment that made enough of an impression on someone that they thought of me when a door opened. Nowadays, I also do less and less for free because I’ve earned the ability to charge my worth (see previous post “what am I worth”.

My constant advice to all of my students and healthcare professionals. We learn and have experience with A LOT of conditions, and that information is very valuable and should be shared in a way that helps people understand how to better care for themselves. But there is also plenty that we DON’T know, and that’s ok too! Let’s not be afraid to tell people that we don’t know, refer them to someone who does, or do the necessary research. We are not experts in everything, and patients/clients will get more in the end if we work as a team. Be confident in what you know, and strong enough to admit what you do not. 💪🏾
