May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month

At Relay For Life of Scotland County, we are dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of skin cancer, particularly melanoma, which is the most serious form of skin cancer. This month, we encourage everyone to take proactive steps in protecting their skin and promoting early detection.

As we enjoy the warmer weather and spend more time outdoors, it's crucial to prioritize our skin health. Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, but it is also one of the most preventable. Here are a few tips to help protect yourself:

➡️ Wear Sunscreen: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, even on cloudy days.

➡️ Seek Shade: Try to stay in the shade, especially during peak sun hours (10 AM to 4 PM).

➡️ Wear Protective Clothing: Long sleeves, hats, and sunglasses can provide additional protection from harmful UV rays.

➡️ Get Regular Skin Checks: Regularly examine your skin for any new moles or changes to existing ones, and consult a dermatologist for professional evaluations.
