Sitting vs. Standing: Whatโs Really Best for Your Health? ๐ช๐ง
Did you know the average adult spends more than 8 hours a day sitting? That much sitting can increase your risk of:
Heart disease & stroke โค๏ธ
Type 2 diabetes ๐ฉ
Dementia (for those 60+) ๐ง
Even early death ๐
(Sources: Mayo Clinic, Harvard Health, National Institutes of Health)
But hereโs the catch ๐ Standing all day isnโt the answer either. Too much standing can cause:
โ ๏ธ Varicose veins
โ ๏ธ Circulation problems
โ ๏ธ Increased risk of blood clots
(The Guardian, WVU Health Research)
The real solution is balance!
Break up long sitting with short bursts of movement:
Walk for 5 minutes every hour ๐
Stretch during TV breaks ๐บ
Take the stairs instead of the elevator
Try โwalking meetingsโ or pacing while on calls ๐
๐ก Even replacing 30 minutes of sitting with light activity can lower BMI and improve heart health!
โจ Bottom line: Sitting too much is risky. Standing helps a little. But moving more, thatโs the real key to better health.
