Rising labor, supply and drug costs, coupled with Medicaid cuts, put health systems like St. Mary’s at risk, especially when more than 60% of our patients rely on Medicare, Medicare Advantage, or Medicaid. More funding cuts will worsen affordability and reduce access to care in the communities we serve.

Our President and CEO, Stonish Pierce, and leaders from the Georgia Hospital Association (including GHA President and CEO Caylee Noggle, pictured with Stonish outside the Capitol) traveled to Washington, DC, last week to speak with our members of Congress about health care affordability and other issues.

Congratulations to Adam Barber, a security officer at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital, on receiving our April Spirit of Mercy Award!

Adam approaches every situation with responsibility and intention, using his strengths -- communication skills, empathy, and sound judgment -- to create a safer, more stable environment. He is widely trusted by staff, clinical teams, and patients because he communicates openly, follows procedures with transparency, and always does what is right even when it is difficult. A recent example was when a troubled young person came to us for care. Adam went above and beyond to be present, listen without judgment, and make a real difference in this person’s life. His actions reflect a character rooted in honesty and genuine care.

We loved being part of career days at South Franklin Elementary and Lavonia Elementary this school year!

Through the support of Sacred Heart Hospital and our incredible team and community partners, we were able to connect with 1,000+ students, engage educators, and share a glimpse into careers in health care.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this experience meaningful for students—and to the schools for welcoming us. We’re already looking forward to next year! 💙🩺📚
