Congratulations to Nikki Mercadel, a registered nurse providing bedside care on the Neurosciences Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital, on receiving St. Mary’s DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence. She was nominated by a patient who had been suffering from intractable pain.

“Nikki is extremely knowledgeable, and I trusted every recommendation and explanation she provided,” the patient said. “More importantly, she clearly cares about her patients. As someone on the receiving end of that care, I could truly feel it. Her presence reduced my stress significantly, which made a real difference in my ability to rest and heal.”

😎 Today, we have been honored to host Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel from across our region at our annual St. Mary’s EMS Conference. Practical, useful-in-the-field topics included pediatric respiratory emergencies, assessing and treating patients with altered mental status, understanding trauma and mental health resources for fire/EMS and healthcare personnel, stroke assessment for EMS with hands-on training, difficult airways, and cardiac emergencies and case studies.

On March 6, St. Mary’s Health Care System had the honor of leading two hands‑on workshops at the HOSA State Conference in Atlanta — an incredible event bringing together more than 5,000 Georgia high school students exploring futures in healthcare.

Our Radiology/Imaging and Respiratory/Laboratory teams hosted 8 workshop sessions, connecting with 900+ students about careers in allied health and what it means to serve our communities through compassionate, skilled care.
