During National Mentoring Month, we’re celebrating mentoring relationships that truly make a difference.

Lexi and Valentina’s match is a beautiful example of what can grow when someone shows up with care, consistency, and an open heart.

👉 Take a look at their story below - and tell us: what makes a great mentor?

📅 January is National Mentoring Month - a time to celebrate the adults who show up, listen, encourage, and walk beside young people as they grow. This video from the national mentoring campaign highlights the impact of mentoring everywhere it happens - and we see that impact every day right here in our community. 👇

Throughout January, we’ll be sharing stories from our mentors and mentees - and ways you can help support mentoring programs like ours, including our upcoming Bowling a Strike for Kids fundraiser. When our community shows up, mentoring relationships thrive. 💛

No one should have to struggle alone. đź’™

When Eva came to us this summer, she had nowhere to turn. With community support, she found counseling, parenting help, and a mentor for her son.

Families across the Merrimack Valley are reaching out every day - especially during the holidays - and the need keeps growing.

⏰ With just days left in the year, we’ve raised $80,000 of our $110,000 year-end goal. $30,000 to go.

Your year-end gift can make an immediate impact.
👉 Give today and help ensure no one is turned away: fsmv.org/donate

Every day, we witness the powerful impact of early intervention when youth are given guidance, instead of consequences alone. The Massachusetts Youth Diversion Program, serving Essex County through Family Services of the Merrimack Valley, partners with youth and families to interrupt harmful paths, build accountability, and create opportunities for growth, healing, and a brighter future. This newsletter highlights the impact of that work and the lives changed along the way.

One of our parenting programs held a Self-Care Wellness Event, where participants and their case managers spoke of the signs and symptoms of mental health and how it influences their daily lives, relationships and physical health. Together, we spoke of taking deliberate steps to care for their physical, mental, and emotional health to improve their well-being. For the activity, participants and their case managers made all natural sugar body scrubs with ingredients that can be found at home. Everyone came together to share a meal in a warm and engaging atmosphere fostering a connection between participants. 💗✨

In partnership with the Northeast Regional Coalition for Su***de Prevention (part of the Massachusetts Coalition for Su***de Prevention) and the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention, we recently held our Survivors of Su***de Loss Day gathering. Some were longtime attendees, some were returning for the first time since before COVID, and others were joining us for the very first time. The day was filled with healing, shared stories, quiet reflection, and moments of laughter through tears. Participants connected over their experiences, honored loved ones together, and found comfort in a community that truly understands. We’re grateful to everyone who showed up with such honesty and courage - and to our partners and volunteers who help make this space possible every year.
