No baby should go without the basics. Through our partnership with HappyBottoms.org, families at Panda Pediatrics and Heartland Community Health Center can receive free diapers when times are tough.

Last month, 18 families received diaper support, including 4 new families connected through our amazing Community Health Workers.

How does your family celebrate Fourth of July?

Because we’re healthcare providers (and big fans of kiddos staying safe), we can’t miss the chance to share a few firework safety reminders.

Children ages 5 to 9 have the second-highest rate of fireworks-related injuries, with teens 15 to 19 experiencing the highest. Let’s keep the holiday fun and safe with these quick tips:

🧨 Watch from a distance. Stay at least 500 feet away from where fireworks are launched to prevent injuries and hearing damage.
🧨 Skip the sparklers. At up to 2,000°F, sparklers are hot enough to cause third-degree burns in seconds (more than 80% of all sparkler injuries involve children younger than 15). Try glow sticks for little hands instead!
🧨 Don’t touch duds. Unexploded fireworks can still go off.
🧨 Fireworks are not DIY. Never try to make your own.
🧨 Protect your pets. Loud noises can frighten animals. Keep them indoors and safe.

Supervise your kiddos this weekend and help keep them safe and smiling.

What Happens When Medicaid Gets Cut?
As congress continues deliberations on the FY 2025 budget resolutions, it is important to understand the impact of proposed Medicaid cuts to safety-net programs, including Federally Qualified Health Centers like Heartland.

Fifty percent of Community Health Center (CHC) patients (16 million of 32.5 million served nationwide) rely on Medicaid and have few other options for healthcare coverage. CHCs have a strong track record of delivering substantial savings to the health care system, including Medicaid, by providing affordable, high-quality primary care and reducing utilization of higher cost settings like the Emergency Department.

Of the more than 22,500 patients who were served by Heartland in 2024, almost 8,000 of them depend on Medicaid coverage for their healthcare. Cuts to Medicaid threaten not only the people who depend on it for their healthcare coverage, but it threatens the entire health care delivery system. Cuts will shift the burden of cost of providing care to health centers who already operate on razor thin margins and are experiencing continued uncertainty around long-term funding.
