Thank you to our good friends at the Omega Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma for organizing a surprise snack & hygiene item drive and donating these much-needed goodies this week. 💙

These items allow our team to physically and financially serve the ‘whole person’ when they meet with clients. When someone is working to better their mental health, it can be a challenge to care for their physical needs and items like these are critical. We are so grateful for the generosity of our supporters in extending these gifts!

Today, on World Autism Awareness Day, we celebrate neurodiversity and reflect on how we can create spaces where every child feels safe, understood, and supported. 💙

Tamara, our Child & Family Services Program Manager, is working with her team to create a sensory pod in our play therapy room. This calming space will give children and youth receiving services a place to decompress, reduce sensory stimulation, and feel more in control of their environment so they can focus on their mental health.

A huge thank you to the Douglas County Community Foundation and all the donors who contributed to our Giving for Good project in 2025 for making this sensory pod a reality.

Moments like this also remind us how representation matters. The introduction of the autistic Barbie is a meaningful step forward—helping children see themselves reflected in the world around them, while encouraging understanding, acceptance, and inclusion in everyday play.

If you’d like to learn more about neurodiversity and mental health, check out our Nash Cares Community Education Series, Neurodiversity and Mental Health (link in the comments). It features a powerful conversation with clinicians, academics, and individuals with lived experience.

Today, the Bert Nash Center honors the lives and contributions of our trans neighbors, colleagues, and community members. We also recognize the profound impact that ongoing invalidation, discrimination, and violence have on the mental and physical well-being of trans individuals. Know that there are resources to support you and you are not alone.

We understand that this journey is ongoing, and we fully recognize that our work is never done. Every day, we strive to improve ourselves, our practices, and the services we offer. At Bert Nash Center, we remain deeply committed to the idea that creating a safe and inclusive environment is an evolving process—one that requires constant reflection, effort, and growth.

We are grateful for your presence and stand in celebration and support of you. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️

Less than a year ago, after three decades of mental health struggles, Steven Snow nearly died from a fentanyl overdose/suicide attempt. He had spent most of his life moving between myriad treatments, the hard work of healing, and difficult relapses.

Today he’s an active participant in the Bert Nash Center (BNC) Adult Outpatient Program (AOP) with the goal of becoming a peer support specialist and helping others on their path to stability, sobriety, and wellness.
