Recently, Merrimack Health celebrated 225 years of combined service to the Merrimack Valley, marking the 150th anniversary of Lawrence Hospital and the 75th anniversary of Methuen Hospital — and we commemorated the occasion by opening time capsules from both facilities.

The Lawrence Hospital capsule, originally sealed in 1976 during the nation's Bicentennial, contained a fascinating snapshot of medicine at the time which included an old pacemaker, surgical textbooks, patient menus, and more.

The Methuen Hospital capsule, sealed in 1982 amid hospital growth and expansion, held handwritten letters from employees offering personal reflections and heartfelt well-wishes to the future caregivers who would one day read their words.

These capsules are a powerful reminder that our work today stands on the shoulders of generations of dedicated caregivers who shared the same mission: to serve the Merrimack Valley with compassion, dignity, and respect. We are honored to carry forward the legacies of the caregivers, community members, and founding organizations who made these hospitals what they are today.

Happy Employee Appreciation Day. đź’™

Today and every day, we are grateful for each and every team member across our organization who are at the heart of Merrimack Health – delivering quality health care with the excellence and compassion that our patients and communities deserve.

How fitting it is that Employee Appreciation Day falls during our week of milestone anniversary celebrations – 150 years at Lawrence Hospital, 75 years at Methuen Hospital, and 125+ years at Haverhill Hospital.

We are proud and celebrate them for all that they do today and always.

A healthy, active dad in his 40s, Sudeep Chawla initially thought nothing of a strange pain near his shoulder blade. When the discomfort lingered and his gut feeling took over, a trip to Merrimack Health Lawrence Hospital saved his life. What Sudeep was actually experiencing was a “widow maker” heart attack – and he was one of the lucky 12% who survive this most serious type of attack.

Thanks to the rapid, coordinated response of the Lawrence Hospital Heart & Vascular team, doctors identified a complete artery blockage and treated Sudeep in our cath lab. Having expert, comprehensive cardiovascular services locally means saving the lives of more patients like Sudeep when minutes count.

Today, Sudeep has made a strong recovery and is back spending time with his family and working at his chiropractic practice. Read more of his story: https://www.mhlawrencehospital.org/lawrence-hospital-cardiac-care-saving-lives

Your A1C level can be a key indicator of your risk for prediabetes and diabetes. The A1C test measures your average blood sugar (glucose) level over a two-to-three-month period and is reported as a percentage.

For Dr. Garo Garabedian, a primary care physician with Merrimack Health Community Medical Associates, the A1C test is the gold standard for diabetes screening because it provides a big-picture view of his patients’ glucose trends.

In this video, we’re sharing Dr. Garabedian’s top need-to-know facts about the A1C test. Your primary care physician can help you understand your results, manage your health, and decide whether this test is right for you.
