We appreciate Lawrence Community Shelter for continuing to provide people with crucial protection from the cold.

The only option for folks to seek shelter from the cold this winter will be the Lawrence Community Shelter, the city has announced, and the city says no one will be turned away in an emergency despite the new residency policy.

This is what community looks like. We just received 75 prepared holiday kits, 106 pounds of non-perishables, totaling 700 pounds of food. This huge donation was from one incredible neighbor who organized a "Gobble Group" food drive. These holiday boxes will go to shoppers who signed up for the Just Food distribution next week.

Can we get a big heart for the generosity of the Lawrence community? đź’™

Whole-person care means every part of your health matters.
Our dental team wore pink to raise awareness for breast cancer and to remind our community that preventive screenings and routine checkups play a key role in early detection.

Heartland participates in the Early Detection Works program, which provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings for eligible patients. Your Care Team can help determine your eligibility and connect you with EDW during your regular wellness exam.

Trust us, pneumonia is no joke. If you have symptoms, the sooner you see your healthcare provider the better.

(785) 841-7297

Data from the American Lung Association show that 1.4 million people with pneumonia visit Emergency Departments each year. Do you know the symptoms?

If you think you may have pneumonia, don't wait for the disease to get even worse before you seek care. Call the doctor! And see them right away if you have difficulty breathing, develop a bluish color in your lips and fingertips, have chest pain, a high fever, or a cough with mucus that is severe or is getting worse.

✅ Access to healthy food isn’t a privilege. It’s healthcare.
Everyone deserves nutritious food and affordable healthcare. The data shows that when people have access to both, their health improves.

Early results from Heartland’s Food is Medicine program show measurable improvements in blood sugar, blood pressure, and food security for patients in Douglas County.

Food is Medicine connects patients to healthy food, nutrition education, and healthcare tailored to their needs. Working with primary care providers, community health workers, and the Care Cupboard, patients are learning to manage chronic conditions and build lasting healthy habits.

Did you know? Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants bring a unique approach to care by focusing on prevention, patient education, and the social factors that shape health.

Their advanced training and patient-centered approach make them a vital part of Heartland’s integrated care model.

Join us in celebrating the difference our NPs and PAs make in our community. Write a thank-you in the comments for a provider you're thankful for đź’™

Access to nutritious food is improving health right here in Douglas County.

Last week, Heartland’s team joined partners from across the state at the Food Is Medicine Learning Collaborative in Topeka, hosted by the Sunflower Foundation and Kansas Health Foundation. The statewide effort is connecting nutrition and health care to improve patient outcomes.
