is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization that was established in 1972 to provide services to people with developmental disabilities. Over the years Cottonwood has earned a reputation for quality services and care as a community service provider. In 1995, Cottonwood was awarded an additional responsibility through the Developmental Disability Reform Act. It became the Community Developmental Disabilities Organization (CDDO) for Douglas and Jefferson County. As the CDDO, Cottonwood is the single point of entry connecting individuals of all ages with developmental disabilities to the network of services in this area.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month!

This year marks 80 years of celebrating the contributions of workers with disabilities and advocating for inclusive workplaces.

In August 2025, the employment rate for people with disabilities reached an all-time high of 38.5% — a powerful sign of progress toward equity and opportunity.

Let’s continue to build workplaces where everyone can thrive.

Cottonwood staff had a great time at the InterHab Power Up Conference in Manhattan, Kansas! 💪

It was an inspiring few days filled with great sessions, meeting new people, and reconnecting with old friends. We’re coming back energized and full of new ideas to keep making a difference!
