In this story shared by NPR, Clayton Dalton, a resident physician at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston shares his findings about antibiotic resistant "Superbugs" and how these Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI's) are now being found within indoor environments that are not medical related.

People who are infected with Clostridium Difficile (C. Diff) have the potential to shed infectious spores throughout any indoor environment they are in. Some who are infected with C. Diff may only be carriers of the infection without showing symptoms. These carriers also have the potential to spread the infection.

These spores present an elevated health risk to others as well as for the original host after the infection has subsided. C. Diff spores are microscopic and lighter than air. They can remain viable on surfaces or float throughout your indoor environment for over 5 months.

Environmental cleaning and EPA registered disinfection with the ability to eradicate Clostridium Difficile spores outside of the medical field is now a possibility.
