-Must be willing to get professional hair and makeup artistry from our artist.

This model opportunity is for a workshop with internationally renowned fine art photographer, Veronika Marques Photographer. Please be advised that you will be photographed by multiple photographers and will be asked to sign a model release.

Why do you need to pay your midwife?

I think there's an assumption that midwifery is a lucrative career because of the cost of our services. But, unfortunately, we are like any other small business just trying to get by. We do what we do because we feel called to do it. We love our work, but monthly and annual expenses to maintain our businesses add up quickly.
Office rent
Car payment
Car insurance
Car maintenance
Gas for 1k miles per month
Liability insurance
Sterile supplies/equipment
Maintaining certifications
Misc business fees
Childcare
All of this must be paid before we make a profit to cover our personal living expenses.
In addition to the business expenses, we give an unlimited amount of physical and emotional labor to each client. I answer calls and texts at all hours of the day and night. My birth bag and oxygen tank are always in my trunk.
I am never "off work."
My family understands that babies come when babies come, but it never gets easier to walk away from birthdays and anniversaries. So far this year I have already missed both.

If you have an outstanding debt to your midwife, please make a payment. Times are tough, but even a $25 payment will cover your midwife's gas (and gas station coffee) at 2am so they can make it home safely after a midnight birth.

“Human gestation is 18 months. 9 months on the inside. 9months on the outside. During this 9 months on the outside called exogestation, I like to think of the Mother and Baby still connected through an energetic umbilical cord.

Physiologically Mama and Baby need to remain close for at least the first 9 months of postpartum.

Breastfeeding, baby wearing, bed sharing this all physiologically necessary for a baby to truly flourish.

It is very similar to Kangaroos, where the baby is born but stays in the Mother’s pouch until around 8 months. Human gestation has evolved to be born at 9-10 months due to the size of the human head but a baby’s brain is really only 25% developed when born compared to other mammals who are fully functioning and able to walk and get themselves around. Human babies need their Mothers to get around, to be fed, to be protected and cared for.

So Mamas keep your babes close.
Hold them.
Love them.
Sing to them.
Eye gaze with them.
Breastfeed them.
Share a bed with them.
