Today marks the start of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW) 2026—also known as Dispatcher Week. Established by a dispatcher in California, then formalized by Presidential Proclamation in 1994, this week recognizes the professionals behind the headset who are often unseen, but never unimportant.

This is a role that can be faceless and, at times, thankless—but it is one carried out every day and night with pride, professionalism, and purpose. If you know a dispatcher, take a moment this week to check in, reach out, and thank them for what they do for their communities.
