I and my team at Adams Family Eye Care serve the Lawrence County and beyond area in rural southeast Illinois. I have resided in several states in the Midwest but have lived in Lawrenceville the longest. I began practicing medical optometry here shortly after graduating from Indiana University School of Optometry in 2005. I enjoy developing long term relationships with patients and strive to answer

their questions and thoroughly meet their eye care needs. My team and I provide yearly comprehensive medical and routine exams, contact lens fittings, urgent and emergent ocular injury visits, foreign body removals, cataract surgical co-management, glaucoma treatment, and macular degeneration and retinal services. For most people, GLP-1 medications are safe and effective. However, research suggests they may be associated with certain eye-related risks in some patients. GLP-1 medications have also been associated with:
- Worsening of diabetic retinopathy
- Exacerbation of age-related macular degeneration
- Optic nerve complications, including NAION

These risks don’t mean you should stop taking your medication, but they do show why it’s important to have an eye exam before starting and regular follow-up exams while on treatment.
