When to introduce egg and peanut butter? 🥚🥜

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends introducing egg and peanut products around 6 months, once your baby has started a few other solids.

Early introduction, especially for babies at higher risk for allergies (like severe eczema or egg allergy) may help reduce the risk of peanut allergy. Always use safe, soft forms like thinned peanut butter or fully cooked egg.

As always, call us first for advice.

For our teen patients and their parents.

One thing we always try to do at DVPA is help our patients think ahead, especially when it comes to social media.

Here’s a simple idea we love, it’s called the “billboard test.”
If you wouldn’t be comfortable with something you wrote, posted, or shared showing up on a giant billboard along Route 1 with your name and photo — then it’s probably best not to post it at all.

We’re not here to lecture, just to remind you that once something’s out there, it’s out there. Even private messages can be screenshot and shared.

Social media’s a huge part of life now, but that doesn’t mean it always has to be stressful or risky. Talk to your kids about it. And if something ever feels off or you’re just not sure, give us a call, we’re happy to talk it through. 609-896-4141

Did you know 1 in 4 school-age children requires corrective lenses or has other vision disorders?

Here are a few signs your child could have vision issues:
- Frequent squinting or sitting too close to screens
- Headaches or eye rubbing after reading
- Falling behind in class or skipping lines while reading
- Complaints of blurry or double vision
- Tilting the head to see better

If any of these sound familiar, it might be time for an eye exam. Contact Delaware Valley Pediatric Associates to schedule a vision screening or wellness visit if your child is due.

📸 A little fun behind the scenes while Dr. Shapiro and our management team attend the annual Physician’s Computer Company (PCC) conference in Vermont this week!

This event is more than just colorful backdrops and goofy glasses, it’s where we connect with other top pediatric practices from across the country to share ideas, solve problems, and bring back strategies that improve the care we provide to your children.

Some changes we’ve implemented since last year’s conference:
✨ Self-scheduling for easier access
✨ In-office bilirubin checks for newborns (no hospital trips!)
✨ Opening appointments further in advance for better planning

This year, we’re brainstorming even more improvements—like flexible scheduling, continuing RSV protection for high-risk infants, and building an even more positive workplace for our amazing staff (because a happy team = better care for your kids!).

We’re always learning, growing, and working to be the best practice we can be. Thanks for being part of our DVPA family! 💙

Is your child asking for social media before age 13?

You’re not alone! Many tweens are eager to join, but research shows that early use can increase the risk of negative mental health effects.

Experts recommend waiting until at least 13 and even then, it depends on the child. Some 13 year olds may be ready, while some 16 year olds may still need more time.

~ Invest in a quality pump (check if insurance covers it)

~ Label & store milk safely (don’t forget a cooler bag)

🏊‍♀️☀️ Keep Kids Safe Around Water This Summer.

Drowning is the leading cause of death for young children after birth defects, and it can happen silently and quickly, even when adults are nearby.

Make sure pools are fully fenced, toys are removed when not in use, and children are always closely supervised.

At Delaware Valley Pediatric Associates, we care about what happens after you leave our office just as much as what happens inside it. Be safe!
