“As the evidence base expands, acupuncture will likely continue to grow in popularity. Although acupuncture has been used for centuries, only in the past decade has there been a seismic shift in acceptance by both Western medical doctors and patients, Menard says. Ongoing research efforts and increased interest from health systems means that the treatment may be part of more conversations…”

✨CDC Proposes New Guidelines for Treating Pain✨

“…doctors should first turn to ‘nonopioid therapies’ for both chronic and acute pain, including prescription medications like gabapentin and over-the-counter ones like ibuprofen, as well as physical therapy, massage and acupuncture.”

The agency threw out previous recommended limits on doses but encouraged “nonopioid therapies” wherever possible.

I love incorporating auricular (ear) acupuncture into my treatments! The ear is a microcosm of the whole body and, thus, can be used to treat various body regions and organs. Stimulation of certain auricular points elicits the parasympathetic response to stimulate digestion and relaxation. Auricular acupuncture can be used alone or in conjunction with body acupuncture. Ear seeds can be placed on certain auricular points following acupuncture treatment to prolong the therapeutic effect✨

“The most effective mask was the fitted N95. Three-layer surgical masks and cotton masks, which many people have been making at home, also performed well.

Neck fleeces, also called gaiter masks and often used by runners, were the least effective. In fact, wearing a fleece mask resulted in a higher number of respiratory droplets because the material seemed to break down larger droplets into smaller particles that are more easily carried away with air.

Folded bandanas and knitted masks also performed poorly and did not offer much protection.”

Schools are reopening, amusement parks are welcoming back visitors, and outdoor dining is the new way to eat out. But despite the signs that life is returning back to normal, the coronavirus pandemic has gone nowhere.

Feeling anxious, stressed, or having trouble sleeping? Try the following acupressure points, all of which calm the spirit! Get in a comfortable position and feel free to play meditation/relaxation music or just rest in a quiet space. Press each point firmly for about 1 minute while practicing deep breathing. Tenderness at the points means that you’ve found the right ones!! Repeat 2x/day (morning and before bed) or as needed throughout the day. If you cannot get to all the points, just select a few (Ex: one from the head, one from the upper body, and one from the lower body). Pressing points from top to bottom is the most relaxing and grounding.

How to locate these soothing points:

✨DU20 (Bai Hui-Hundred Convergences): midline of the head, approximately on the midpoint of the line connecting the apexes of both ears

✨DU24 (Shen Ting-Spirit Court): 0.5 cun (which is about the width of your pinky finger) directly above the midpoint of the anterior hairline

✨Yin Tang (Hall of Impression): midway between the medial ends of the eyebrows

✨Neurogate (Ear Shen Men-Heavenly Gate): lateral 1/3 of triangular fossa

✨Ren17 (Dan Zhong-Chest Center): on the anterior midline, midway between the ni***es

✨PC6 (Nei Guan-Inner Pass): 2 cun above the transverse wrist crease between the tendons palmaris longus and flexor carpi radialis (find easily by placing index, middle, and ring fingers of one hand together, line up with wrist crease of opposite hand, find point between the 2 tendons on the forearm, press with index finger)

✨HT7 (Shen Men-Spirit Gate): at the ulnar end of the transverse wrist crease, in the depression on the radial side (inside) of flexor carpi ulnaris (easily found at intersection of line connecting the inside pinky to the wrist crease when fingers are together)

✨SP6 (San Yin Jiao-Three Yin Intersection): 3 cun above the tip of the medial malleolus, on posterior border of the tibia (easily found by placing index, middle, ring, and pinky fingers together, line up with inner ankle bone, and find tender point on inner lower leg behind the bone)

✨KD6 (Zhao Hai-Shining Sea): in the depression below the tip of the medial malleolus (inner ankle bone)

💫Relax & enjoy!
