Wrapping up OT month with an example of how we may use one intervention to meet so many different needs/different purposes, at different developmental stages - featuring our new jumbo Tetris! Scroll through to see how a little teeny friend is using to work on reaching & strengthening, a slightly older friend for upper body coordination, an older friend for problem-solving & executive functioning(+ sneaking in some core strength with the bosu), and finally a social/turn taking/really complex reflex integration/problem-solving, color-coded obstacle course! + the OTs who have to get creative with how to stay out of the way and let the magic happen 😉 we got to celebrate OT month with coffee from Bright Side Cafe at the clinic & a group of us at dinner at our favorite DT Lawrenceville location - Strange Taco! 🌮☕️🫶🏼 someone pinch, as this is just a glimpse into what gets to be our daily life!!

This week of OT month, we're focusing on SENSORY PROCESSING! You can hear it, see it, smell it, feel it, & taste it + the 3 "secret senses" (vestibular, proprioception, & interoception), and honestly, the more ways, the better (like in a multi-modal sensory approach to motor learning)! Every activity has a sensory component, and we as OTs are the sensory experts!!! Sensory input directly impacts your motor output, emotional & self-regulation, and even your socializing! WE CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF SENSORY PROCESSING!!! ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜💖

Next up in our OT Month Spotlight Skills - we pride ourselves on being the Fine Motor Promoters! Whether it's working on upper-body/hand strength, grasping, or even activities with a visual motor component (copying), catch us focusing on your child's fine motor coordination so they can better participate in age appropriate self-care (self-feeding, tying shoes, opening packages, etc.) and play skills (stacking blocks, drawing & coloring, handwriting, dolls, beads, stickers, paint, and so much more)! ADLs are Activities of Daily Living, aka self-care! (IADLs are Instrumental Activities of Daily Living aka upper-level skills or "chores") Check us out here performing:
- shoe tying
- spoon feeding
- toileting/hygiene skills
- dressing (particularly with dress up when traditional dressing isn't very motivating 😉)
- cooking!
