I heard a message a few weeks back about re-centering. It had a great analogy of how we use our GPS for directions. Once we have the directions, we tend to want to look ahead sometimes to see the route ahead of us. We watch familiar streets and landmarks scroll by as we land on and locate our final destination. This, while still listening to the audio directions to turn right in 100ft or get into the middle lane for a left turn. Only, it’s hard to see where you’re going on the map when your map is sitting on the final destination. “Wait is this 100 feet?”, “Where is the middle lane?”
It’s helpful to see in advance where we are going, but we must still pay attention to where we are at. So, what do we do? We hit that re-center to get back on track. Sometimes in life we can get so far ahead of ourselves that we lose track of our present. The people around us, our accomplishments, caring for ourselves. Re-center! Get yourself together, prepare and pay attention…be present. Also, enjoy where you are at until you get to where you are going.
