We wanted to take the time to highlight Dr. Eric Nielsen today! Dr. Nielsen has been a member of our team since 2013 and has been invaluable. Like our other doctors, he graduated from Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry. Following graduation, Dr. Nielsen pursued a career in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Major.

Aside from being a great Optometrist, Dr. Nielsen is a great person. When asked to describe him, the words “laid back" and “easy-going” were used many times. Dr. Nielsen is a supporter of the community, taking the time to attend Cameron music concerts, softball games, high school theater performances, and more. He is a BIG sports fan, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys, but finds joy in all sporting events. Dr. Nielsen has also been described as “our resident funny guy” for his ability to make delightfully corny jokes, give you the best random trivia facts, and willingness to challenge you to a battle of Bean Boozled at any time.

Dr. Nielsen says that what he loves most about optometry is that it allows him to help people see better which ultimately improves their quality of life.

Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a big topic of discussion! While myopia makes it difficult when looking into the distance, research has shown that increased amounts of myopia also results in increased risk of certain eye diseases.

Thankfully, there are treatment options available to slow down the progression of myopia! These treatments are called Myopia Control. We are excited to offer various levels and options for myopia control in our clinic.

We have provided a very informative link below about myopia and myopia control options. However, if you have any additional questions, please do not hesistate to ask!

Myopia causes blurred vision, affects quality of life and risks eye health. Myopia control gives kids better vision now and healthier eyes in the long term.

Let’s talk tears!

Tears are produced in the the major tear gland. They then travel down the lipid glands throughout the eyelids and land on the surface of the eyes.

The tears themselves should have an olive oil-type consistency. Unfortunately, when your eyes become dry, irritated, inflamed, or otherwise compromised, the olive oil can turn to a butter-like consistency. This change results in the tears not being able to travel down the lipid glands as easily, potentially making your dryness worse or leading to styes on the eyelids!

Thankfully, there are things we can do to reverse this process!

If you are suffering from dryness, and lubricating drops are not helping relieve your symptoms, or you have recurrent styes, we may be able to help!
