Narcissists want to control you. Social isolation is one of their favorite tools. They might slowly start criticizing your friends and family, planting seeds of doubt about the people you trust. They’ll make you feel like no one understands you the way they do, like everyone else is toxic or against you. Before you realize it, you've stopped reaching out to loved ones, and your world revolves solely around them.
This kind of manipulation is subtle and can happen gradually, which makes it even more dangerous. It doesn't start with threats or control—it starts with seemingly loving gestures that eventually strip away your independence and self-worth.
