Ultrasound time!

Pregnancy can be exhausting and painful.
Your back hurts.
You have to go the bathroom all the time.
All you want to do is sleep.
Which is why I like to do an ultrasound at EVERY visit!! You’re working HARD to grow a human inside of you and it’s SO fun to see your little one grow!

This is my medical assistant Jocelyn and her babe is a cute karate kicker!

Happy Mother's Day!

Long-time moms.
New moms.
Moms who have experienced loss.
Soon-to-be moms.
Moms at heart.

This Mother’s Day may look a little different than you’ve envisioned.
Maybe you’re not able to be with family.
Maybe you got curbside pickup instead of breakfast in bed.
Maybe it was filled with fear and doubt instead of love and joy.

We are here for all women.
Women who are pregnant.
Women who want to become pregnant.
Women who have struggled with loss.
All women.
We. Are. Here. For. You.

And mom, you deserve to be honored all 365 days a year!

Happy midwives day!

Today we celebrate all midwives around the world!

I have been lucky enough to always work and train with midwives! It was actually one of the most important things to me when I chose where I wanted to go for residency and work! I deeply value the relationships I have with my midwife colleagues and am so lucky to have them by my side! They have had a huge role in who I have become as a physician and how I practice medicine.

So if you’re pregnant and get COVID, will your symptoms be more severe?!

Current studies show that pregnant women do not have more severe symptoms than the general public.

I really REALLY hope that this is true!

But the data is really limited.
And we have a lot to learn.

To be honest, I have my doubts and suspicions.
We know that pregnant women have a higher risk of severe morbidity and mortality with other respiratory infections (like the flu and pneumonia).
Also, there are a lot of physiologic changes that happen during pregnancy that make me question whether or not it’s true that pregnant women don’t have more severe symptoms.

If you’re interested in learning more, there’s a really good study that was just released! Check it out here- https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2589933320300483. Their discussion is super interesting and well done.

The science nerd in me can’t wait for more data to come out so we can learn more about the virus and how it’s impacting pregnant women!

Regardless, it’s super important to avoid getting COVID in the first place :)

Who can be with you during birth?!
Different hospitals have different policies so it’s important to contact your healthcare provider to discuss the most up-to-date visitor restrictions at your hospital.
A lot of my patients have read about what happened in New York a few weeks ago when NO visitors were allowed in to the labor and delivery unit (including the father or partner)!
Much of the women’s health community was shocked at this and the policy has since been reversed.
We understand that these policies are disappointing to a lot of people but ultimately they’re about protecting you.
We want to do everything we can to give you the birth experience that you want while keeping you, your family, and your new baby safe.
And even if you can’t have all of the support people around you that you’d originally planned, we’re here for you.
We leave our families to be with you and support yours.
We truly care so deeply about you and your birth experience.
