Holiday toys can be so much more than just fun...
When chosen intentionally, they can help spark communication, build motor skills, and support learning in between sessions.
These are some of my favorite toy picks because they encourage:
🗣️ asking for help
🧠 answering questions
✋ turn-taking & attention
💬 labeling, commenting, and requesting
How to use them at home:
• Bubbles (Bubble Bear): pause + wait → “more bubbles?” “ready, set… go!” Also works on fine motor skills
• Animals in colored boxes: name colors, animals, sounds, in/out
• Farms & animals: sounds, actions, locations, early pretend play
• Bird drop toy: pushing in, pulling out, waiting, requesting “help”
• Pop the Pig: perfect reinforcement for working hard or answering correctly
• Hedbanz: great for older kids to practice describing, questioning, and turn-taking
Remember 🚨 toys don’t create language, interaction does.
Play together, model words, ask questions, and have fun
