Simonsen Chiropractic, PC

Simonsen Chiropractic, PC I was born and raised in Cherokee, Iowa and it was here that I met my husband, Patrick, who is a veterinarian at Le Mars Veterinary Clinic.

✨️Plymouth county's neuro-focused pediatric, prenatal, and family chiropractor✨️

https://pxdocs.com/nervous-system/the-hidden-impact-of-stress-on-healthy-babies/ Following our graduations in 2013, we moved to southwest Michigan, where I worked as an associate chiropractor and Patrick worked as an associate veterinarian. We welcomed our daughter, Lauren, in October 2014. From the time Lauren was born she has been benefiting from chiropractic care and I am proud to say that she is a happy healthy little girl. From a young age I knew I wanted to help people better their health. However, I did not know which direction I wanted to take in order to provide health care to the community. I worked in a pharmacy while in college and after seeing person after person come in to get pills for this and that (and pills for the side effects of the pills they were taking!) I knew there had to be a different way to help people restore their health. Prior to that I worked in a chiropractic office and witnessed people getting better without the use of medicine or surgery. After those job experiences I had my answer. I graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Biology in the spring of 2009. Later that year I began my chiropractic education at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. I obtained my Doctor of Chiropractic in February 2013. As a student at Palmer I had the opportunity to help members of the Quad Cities and surrounding area. I was able to travel to Brazil for a clinic abroad program through Palmer College of Chiropractic. This gave me the opportunity to provide chiropractic care to those who would otherwise not have access to health care. While at Palmer I learned several techniques to better help people based on their area of complaint which include: Gonstead, Diversified, Thompson Drop, and Activator. I strive to help all persons of the community and find it important to provide chiropractic care to those of all ages.

When messages get scrambled, the body commonly shows it 😫 as behavior, focus, digestion, or sleep issues.

🧠 How to Support Your Child’s Nervous System at Home

When your child is receiving neurologically-focused chiropractic care, the work at home matters just as much as what happens in our office. Small, consistent actions create the space where healing can actually happen.

The nervous system regulates sleep, digestion, immunity, behavior, and so much more! Think of it like your child’s control center. When it’s stuck in “fight or flight” mode (due to early stress, birth trauma, toxins, etc.), you might see sleep issues, digestive problems, sensory challenges or delays.

More therapies/interventions aren’t always better. In fact, flooding a child with lots of new therapies/interventions can overload their nervous system. Steady, regular routines beat big-bursts of change.

Good, regular sleep is the gateway to nervous-system repair: same bedtime/wake time every day, calm wind-down routine, minimal screens & sugar, a cool dark quiet room.

Movement isn’t just exercise. Movement helps wire the nervous system. But unstructured, fun, exploratory play (tree climbing, rolling, swinging, walks) helps more than intense organized sport.

A cluttered, noisy, overstimulating home keeps the nervous system in high alert. Instead try soft lighting, minimize background noise, give transition-warnings, create a dedicated “calm corner”.

Whole foods, healthy fats (brain = ~60% fat), quality protein and veggies. It's best to avoid excess sugar, processed foods, artificial dyes and focus on key nutrients: omega-3s, magnesium, B-vitamins, probiotics and prebiotics (via gut-brain axis).

When your child is dysregulated, it’s not “bad behavior”, it’s their nervous system signaling stress. If you're noticing any of these patterns: Sleep worse? More meltdowns? Transitions harder? Then simplify, reduce demands, and create more downtime.

Bottom line:
You play a key role. You’re not the “fixer”, you’re the environment-creator: routines, safety, regulation.

Pick 1-2 manageable things and keep going. Over time, consistency wins.

Beginning January 1, 2026, we will no longer be accepting NEW Medicare patients. This policy change applies ONLY to individuals who are NOT currently established patients at our office.

We want to reassure you that this decision WILL NOT AFFECT OUR CURRENT MEDICARE PATIENTS, nor will it affect existing patients who transition to Medicare coverage in the future. If you are currently under our care—or become a patient prior to January 1, 2026—you will continue to receive uninterrupted services, regardless of any changes in your Medicare status.

As our practice continues to grow, we are shifting more of our focus toward perinatal and pediatric chiropractic care. We’re passionate about supporting growing families and enhancing the health and wellness of children and expecting mothers through specialized, evidence-based care. This evolving focus allows us to better serve the unique needs of these populations within our community.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued trust in our care. If you have any questions or concerns about this change or your care plan, please don’t hesitate to contact us at (712) 546-8152 or support@simonsenchiropractic.com.
