When Rachael found yoga, she felt human again. She started slow, watching YouTube videos, doing fifteen minutes per day. When she worked her way up to an hour, she pursued yoga teacher training. Rachel attended an immersive, month-long course in Boulder. On day ten, she had her last drink of alcohol. She was discovering inner strength, no longer reaching for external validation. Her old ways shifted. She was asking questions and looking inside herself for answers.
Yoga changed her ability to navigate stress. Rachael has been a bartender in the service industry for over fifteen years, she stays calm when dealing with difficult patrons. She tested her courage as a whitewater raft guide for two seasons on the Colorado and Blue Rivers. She has a red lab puppy Asha, a teacher of constant joy and occasional frustration. Asha likes to carry big sticks and eat sandals. A creative outlet for Rachael is coming up with fun yoga flows for the multiple classes per week she teaches: “It’s more than an exercise class. Yoga helps us slow down and settle, to see clearly into the center, the unchanging place of love.”
