🦟🐛🐾Friendly reminder - even though snow is expected tomorrow, spring is upon us and so are the parasites that threaten our pets! The most common intestinal parasite we've been seeing on f***l testing in dogs here has been Giardia-- which is Zoonotic-- meaning humans can get it too. 💩😱

This parasite is microscopic, so you would not see any evidence in your pet's f***s, and most animals that carry it don't show any syptoms (though some do get diarrhea). In addition to that, is difficult to detect with typical in-clinic f***l flotation testing- so false negatives can occur. We use an advanced f***l testing method developed by Zoetis, using a special microscope called the Vetscan Imagyst. This technology integrates AI image recognition and deep learning algorithms to analyze f***l samples and provide rapid and accurate results. Sounds fancy (and it is really neat), but we are able to run this testing for only $30, all we need is a fresh p**p sample!

We are so excited and proud of her and her teammates from Ark Valley Athletics arkvalleyathletics in BV. Ashley is a 6th grader at LCIS and our family spends many hours each week traveling to BV for her to train. Our clinic schedule is built around her gym schedule (and childcare for her little sister) so we wanted to share this moment with all of you!

We’ve seen several cases of suspected ma*****na toxicity in Leadville dogs and the majority appear to have been exposed by ingestion on trails… we know at least one was likely due to eating contaminated human 💩🤢. Stay diligent when hiking or even just walking with your dog around town, and check out the link for common symptoms of this issue.

As cannabis-derived products have become more available across the US, veterinarians have seen increased cases of THC exposure in pets. Here are the most common clinical signs in dogs. If you suspect your pet may have ingested a cannabis product, contact your veterinarian.

🚨PSA🚨- Watch out for these iron containing preservative packets! 🧲
Last week, a dog presented to us that had just chewed up this packet that was inside a bag of his treats. We initially thought it was just a silica packet, but the use of a magnet proved it contained iron!
➡️ What’s the big deal? An iron-containing oxygen absorber/desiccant packet is highly toxic to dogs, unlike silica gel, and can cause serious iron poisoning. Ingestion often leads to vomiting, diarrhea, bloody stools, and lethargy within 6 hours, potentially causing severe gastrointestinal damage, and iron toxicity can even be fatal if untreated. The packet itself can also lead to obstruction of the GI tract in small dogs.

🤢 Luckily his owner was quick to act, we gave him a medication to induce vomiting and he threw up the contents he had eaten, preventing him from absorbing any potentially toxic iron. After he got it all up, we gave him another injection that stops vomiting/ nausea and he was able to head out with his mom for a hike like nothing happened! ♥️🐾

We had never seen a case involving this type of preservative packet before and thought it was important to share!
