I was recently honored to be interviewed by a local paper regarding the shortage of school-based speech therapists.

If you or a loved one is looking for speech therapy services, I’d be happy to talk with you. I currently have availability and no waiting list, with therapy offered at my office or virtually for families in Texas, Indiana, and Washington State.

We have some exciting news!

For those that don’t know already, we are going to have to have some short term changes in the office due to me injuring my knee Sunday 8/27. As of today, I finally have results from an MRI and learned that I tore my MCL. The doctor ordered me to be non-weight bearing for an additional 4-6 weeks. 

Just to be clear we are not closing during this time and we are still accepting new clients.

However, here are the changes that are going to have to take place.
1- I am not going to be able to do any out of office (daycare/private school) visits for the time being.
2- I am only going to be able to see clients either virtually or while sitting at the conference table at the office.
3- when you come to the office you will have to wait in the front lobby longer as a make my way from the suite to the door to let you in.

For this afternoon only we have a new speech therapy assistant in the office. Wookie had a vet appointment that ran late so I had to bring him up to the office for my last session of the day. We still have some after school sessions available. If you’re lucky you too might be able to meet Wookie.

I am proud to announce that we now have a speech pathologist at HEP TX!

Matthew (Matt) Alexander is the proud owner of Alexander Speech and Hearing LLC, a private speech and language therapy practice. This practice focuses on expressive language disorders (communicating one’s own thoughts and feelings), receptive language disorders (the ability to understand others), social language abilities, as well as articulation and phonological disorders (the way speech sounds are made). Matt’s practice also provides hearing and vision screenings to aid in early identification and remediation of deficits that could impact education and quality of life.

Matt was homeschooled all throughout elementary and into his high school years. In 7th grade Matt started taking classes through HEPTX while also joining Joyful Sound Homeschool choir. Matt continued with the HEP classes and choir until he graduated in 2004. Matt attended Lamar University and graduated with a bachelors in Communication Disorders in December 2007. He went on to attend graduate school at Lamar and graduated with his masters in Speech-Language Pathology in 2010. In 2011 he obtained his Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Matt attributes a great deal of his academic success to the firm foundation he received through his participation in classes at HEP TX.

We are excited to announce that our portable audiometer has been delivered! We are now able to perform hearing screenings as part of our evaluations. Also, if you know a private school or daycare that is interested in screening their students for speech, language, and/or hearing please reach out as we would love to work with them... We will soon be adding vision screenings as another service we can provide.
