Turns out my counselor probably didn’t have it all together either… and that may have been part of what made the space feel safe.
Before becoming a counselor, I believed a lot of the same things many people do about therapy. That I should be able to figure things out on my own. That counselors had everything perfectly together. That emotions in the room were a little… strange.
Being on the other side of the room has changed the way I see all of that.
It’s made me realize how much courage it takes to show up honestly and let someone sit with you in the hard parts.
