Turns out my counselor probably didn’t have it all together either… and that may have been part of what made the space feel safe.

Before becoming a counselor, I believed a lot of the same things many people do about therapy. That I should be able to figure things out on my own. That counselors had everything perfectly together. That emotions in the room were a little… strange.

Being on the other side of the room has changed the way I see all of that.

It’s made me realize how much courage it takes to show up honestly and let someone sit with you in the hard parts.

The hardest part?

It’s not just what you found.
It’s that you’re grieving someone who’s still sitting next to you.

And you keep wondering:
“Am I crazy?”
“Am I overreacting?”
“Why can’t I just let this go?”

Because your body knows something broke.
His resistance to help does not disqualify you from getting it.

We see you.

If you see yourself in this story, we’d be honored to walk alongside you.

At LifeTree, being a nonprofit isn’t just a tax status.

It shapes how we show up.
It allows us to offer sliding scale counseling.
It allows us to partner with local churches and organizations.
It allows us to focus on long-term healing instead of production numbers.

Mental health impacts families.
Families impact communities.
When counseling is accessible, entire communities grow healthier.

If you’ve ever supported LifeTree — as a donor, a church partner, or by sharing about us — you’re part of that impact.

And if you’ve benefited from our services, we’re honored you trusted us with your story.

Loving someone who struggles with addiction is its own kind of grief.

You grieve the broken promises.
The version of them you remember.
The version of yourself you used to be.

Most of the time, you’re doing it quietly.
People say, “Just leave.”
Or, “Marriage is hard.”

But living inside the cycle is different.

If you’re holding both hope and heartbreak at the same time — you’re not weak.

You’re human.

If you see yourself in this story, we’d be honored to walk alongside you. More information is available through the link in our bio.

Yes, we have progress notes.
Yes, we have emails.
Yes, we have calls to return.
And yes… sometimes the social media girl says it’s time to dance.

Behind every session is a real human who cares enough to document it well, follow up thoughtfully, and keep learning.

We laugh. We dance. And then we finish the notes.

If you’re in the League City area and nervous about starting counseling — we promise we’re real people who take your story seriously.

(And we will absolutely go back to the progress notes after this.)

Hi, I’m Kelli 👋

One thing about me as a counselor — I’m always reading.

Not just because I love books (I do), but because I care deeply about understanding the layers of what my clients are walking through.

Pressure.
Nervous system overwhelm.
Questions about identity and belonging.

These aren’t abstract ideas — they show up in real conversations every week.

Staying curious helps me sit with people more thoughtfully and more gently.

If you’re in the League City area and have been considering counseling but feel nervous — that makes sense. Starting is vulnerable.

But you don’t have to walk in perfect or put together.

Just honest.

We’ll meet you there.

Some patterns aren’t personality.

They’re survival.

EMDR helps the brain reprocess trauma so memories that feel present-tense can finally feel like the past.
And access matters.

Sliding scale means the cost of therapy is adjusted based on income and financial need. It’s one way we try to remove barriers so counseling isn’t only available to people with flexible budgets.

This post is inspired by real clinical themes we see often, but it is not about one specific client. Details are changed to protect privacy.

If you’ve ever thought therapy was out of reach, this is your reminder: it might not be.

What can we say? We love a good 11am Tuesday dance jam. 💃🏼

But for real — we know starting counseling can feel intimidating.
Walking into a room with someone you’ve never met and talking about your life? That’s vulnerable.

We hope this reminds you:
We’re real people.
We laugh.
We drink too much coffee.
We get nervous too.

And we genuinely care about the humans who sit across from us. 🤍

You can honor pain and believe in healing. One doesn’t cancel out the other.

“At least…” is usually said with love.

But when someone is hurting, it can accidentally:
• Minimize their pain
• Suggest they should feel differently
• Shut down further sharing

Most of us say it because we want to help.
Because pain feels uncomfortable.
Because we’re trying to offer hope.

But hope lands better after someone feels seen.
Validation doesn’t remove hope.
It makes space for it.

Send this to someone who loves people well.

Inspired by a true story from one of our counselors.
Not a specific client. Not a single session.
But a real moment that happened inside these walls.
Details are always changed. Stories are always protected.

But the growth? That part is real.
There’s something sacred about watching someone become ready.
Ready to see it.
Ready to say it.
Ready to stop skimming the surface of their own story.

If you’ve ever wondered what keeps therapists doing this work — it’s moments like that.

The quiet courage.
The long game.
The 3%.
That’s the good stuff. 🤍

Ranking coping skills is fun.
But here’s the part we don’t say enough:

Coping skills aren’t magic fixes.

It’s easy to think,
“If I just replace my bad habits with better ones, I’ll handle stress perfectly.”

But real stress doesn’t happen in ideal conditions.

When a baby won’t stop crying.
When conflict escalates.
When you’re exhausted and overwhelmed.

In those moments, we don’t rise to our new coping tools.
We default to our old patterns.

The goal isn’t to find the perfect coping skill.
It’s to practice new ones when you’re calm —
so they’re strong enough to access when you’re not.

Coping skills help.
They just aren’t the whole story.
