Today is World Lymphedema Day đź’™
Lymphedema is a chronic condition that causes swelling due to a buildup of lymphatic fluid, most commonly affecting the arms or legs. It can develop after cancer treatment, surgery, infection, trauma, or congenital lymphatic system differences.
Early recognition and treatment are key to preventing progression.
Signs of lymphedema may include:
• Persistent swelling in an arm or leg
• A feeling of heaviness or tightness
• Skin thickening or decreased flexibility
• Recurrent infections
Physical/ Occupational therapy plays an important role in managing lymphedema through specialized treatments such as:
✔️ Manual lymphatic drainage
✔️ Compression therapy
✔️ Therapeutic exercise
✔️ Education on long-term management
Raising awareness helps patients get the care they need sooner.
đź’™ If you or someone you know is experiencing persistent swelling, speak with a healthcare provider about evaluation and treatment options. https://lymphnet.org/

We got a visit from this rock star today! We were lucky enough to rehab her for pre-prosthetic training. She showed off her stubbies today and is now able to walk! She has been working so hard and we are very proud of her.

Stubbies are a form of prosthetics for above knee amputees which provide a lower center of gravity, better balance, less energy expenditure and more safety. She does not have to navigate the difficulties of a prosthetic knee joint.
