Frio Canyon EMS is looking for volunteer medics!

As many of you know, we are currently running most calls on a variance. This means we are operating below the minimum staffing level required by The Texas Department of State Health Services. We are fortunate to have been granted this variance by DSHS to remain operational to serve our community however, this also comes at the potential cost of overworking our few very dedicated team members.

The health and safety of our patients is our priority, but insuring the health of our team is the biggest hurdle we face. Our need for licensed volunteers is a dire one.

With the completion of our new facility, we now have the freedom to accept volunteers from outside our service area and house them. This opens many new doors for us to continue to serve our wonderful community.

So we are asking for your help to spread the word! If you or anyone you know has an EMS license ECA or above, please reach out to see what you can do to help!

At our public meeting last night, we were presented with very generous donation from Songs on the Frio to the tune of $100,000!

We would like to thank everyone that had a hand in organizing this fundraiser as well as everyone that was able to make a personal donation to the cause. We are very fortunate to have such an outstanding community behind us. You are the reason we get to do what we do!

🗣️2025 Call Statistics🗣️

In 2025 we had 216 calls for EMS!

93 - No Transport
84 - Transport to UMH in Uvalde
10 - Transport to PRMC in Kerrville
9 - Transports to Nelson's Funeral Home
19 - Transports by Helicopter
1 - ALS intercept with another agency

Our variance was used 144 times.

We would like to thank all of the hospital and pre-hospital staff we have had the pleasure of working with all these years!

To Nelson's Funeral Home, thank you for helping us with the delicate handling of loved ones and family that have passed away.

And to our community, your generosity has brought us to places we only dreamed of. With warm hearts and overflowing kindness, each and every one of you makes everything we do possible!

2 - Transports via Helicopter

Our Variance was used 13 times!

A Variance means we are operating under minimum state standards for # of Licensed Medics! If you or someone you know are Licensed ECA or above, reach out and see how you can volunteer! We have dorm rooms for people living outside of our response zone so we can guarantee a speedy response when a call drops!
