s and healthy longevity. I was practicing law when a client introduced me to Nikken® in 1997. I incorporated these ingenious products into my life. Since I was litigating medical malpractice cases, I was already familiar with the sick care industry that harms so many Americans each year. I was sold on a company offering a solution to the crisis we were facing as a nation. Then, in 2004, a top consultant in the company introduced me to a leadership track to become a spokesperson and consultant for Nikken.® The business model was consistent with my needs. The consultant position is independent, which provides me the freedom I needed as a Mother and practicing attorney. Prior to making a decision, I took my children with me to test the full line of products. We were all so impressed that I invested in the certified Wellness Home. We experienced the impact immediately. I traveled with my children to the corporate headquarters in Irvine, California, and was so impressed with the modern automation of the operation. The facility was so beautiful that Holywood movies were being filmed there. Back home, the organic products and cutting-edge technology transformed my home into a wellness sanctuary. The longer I am associated with good people and habits, the more I realize how toxic our modern culture has become. As an independent Nikken® consultant, I became committed to helping people find balance and fulfillment. I worked hard, became a Silver Wellness Consultant, and won the Paragon Award in my first year. Later that year, I attended the opening ceremonies in Singapore. In 2005, my children and I traveled to Japan to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the founding of Nikken.® We discovered a beautiful culture of mutual respect with an unparalleled emphasis on balance and wellness. We were able to experience the country that gave birth to Nikken® Being embraced within the Japanese culture was so healing and inspirational. We traveled the country and learned more about Mr. Masuda. Isamu Masuda started Nikken® in Fukuoka, Japan in 1975. At Japan's Fukuoka Airport, a bright neon sign reads: "Because you are you, you are irreplaceable in this universe. All I want to see is your smile." This loving message encapsulates the life of Mr. Masuda who gave embracing hugs to all those he met. Masuda was sickly as a child. His father was killed in WWII, and his mother was a shopkeeper. After Mr. Masuda married at 27, he had a son, Koji. His son suffered with an affliction and he turned to magnets to help. In 1975, Mr. Masuda introduced the concept of magnetic energy to promote health and well-being. That humble beginning grew into a global company. As Nikken® brought the idea of total wellness to the world, emphasizing balance in all aspects of living, many nations joined the mission. Today, even NASA uses magnets in the suits of astronauts. Masuda believed that physical health was not enough. He often said "There are five pillars of wellness. You must also be healthy in your mind, in your close relationships, in finances, and in your connections with your community to experience total wellness." Masuda did not speak English, so that is a rough translation. He emphasized the need to contribute to society as a means to an end--total wellness.
