Caregiver Job Description
As a Cornerstone caregiver, you will be expected to:
• Treat all the residents with respect, recognizing that each is an individual with their own gifts and their own challenges which make it impossible for them to live independently. It is our first and foremost task to assist them to be as independent as they are able, and to support them in continued growth. Use positive reinforcement as much as possible. Model care for each one to encourage them to also care for each other.
• Assist with tasks and activities of daily living, with direct help in some cases, and with encouragement, reminders, and teaching proper techniques in other cases. This includes such items as showers and baths (including hair washing), brushing teeth, shaving, washing clothes, making beds, cleaning rooms, and other such tasks as needed.
• Plan and prepare meals as necessary on the shifts you work. The administrator will assist in planning and will make all purchases of necessary supplies and food items. It is expected you will keep a list of needed items for purchase as you use up supplies. Keeping the kitchen clean and organized is also part of the duties.
• Give out the needed supplements and prescribed medications as per each resident’s care plan, and directly administer those items that are delegated by the home nurse to be done by the caregiver - (such as eye and ear drops or skin ointments).
• Taking the residents to joint activities in the Cornerstone van when necessary (always by van on weekends).
• Doing activities with each of the residents that fit their interests and level of participation during the course of the day. It may be sitting and watching a video with Nick, reading a book to Daniel, playing ball with Joseph, doing a puzzle with Charles, or a game with Nora and Micah.
• Arrange for group activities in the home as well as in the community to engage the residents.
• Care for the facility and do light maintenance and cleaning tasks (janitorial help is done by another, and any significant repairs will be done or arranged to be done by the Administrator).
• Other duties as requested by the Administrator.

We had a great time at Disneyworld December 11-18 with four residents of Cornerstone, Micah, Nora, Charles and Joseph, and Carl, Debbie, and Dieuwke going along for the ride.... Stayed at Pop Century Disney Resort and went to all four parks - Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood, and Animal Kingdom. Fun and exhausting!

We are so thankful and feel so blessed to welcome two new full-time caregivers to our Cornerstone family. Julie(Jules) Hofer comes to us from Nebraska through friends Eric and Heidi Krumland. She has no formal credentials but has been active assisting the special needs community and helped care for her older sister with cerebral palsy. She will start her training on the 11th and will work days. Our evening shift will be taken by Amber Durst, a mother of 5 with 8 years caregiving experience and is herself the mother of a son with autism. She will start on Sunday afternoon the 17th. We welcome them to our family!
