Cornerstone Community is a home with 6 special needs adults. We have a full-time weekend caregiver position for 32 hours per week which runs from Friday 3PM until Sunday at 3PM (8 hrs. Friday, 16 hrs. Saturday, 8 hrs. Sunday). Caregiver must sleep in the home Friday and Saturday nights and will be paid a sleepover fee per night spent. Pay when fully certified will be $19-20 per hour after probationary period. This position comes with fully paid health care, dental, and vision as well as paid time off.
We’d prefer someone with a Home Care Aid certification or a Certified Nursing Assistant certification, but will hire someone without these credentials and will pay for training as long as person begins training immediately. Will pay training rate of $17.50 until all certifications completed. All ongoing training required will be paid for by us. Greatest requirement is compassion and patience! Experience with people with special needs a big plus!
Caregiver Job Description
As a Cornerstone caregiver, you will be expected to:
• Treat all the residents with respect, recognizing that each is an individual with their own gifts and their own challenges which make it impossible for them to live independently. It is our first and foremost task to assist them to be as independent as they are able, and to support them in continued growth. Use positive reinforcement as much as possible. Model care for each one to encourage them to also care for each other.
• Assist with tasks and activities of daily living, with direct help in some cases, and with encouragement, reminders, and teaching proper techniques in other cases. This includes such items as showers and baths (including hair washing), brushing teeth, shaving, washing clothes, making beds, cleaning rooms, and other such tasks as needed.
• Plan and prepare meals as necessary on the shifts you work. The administrator will assist in planning and will make all purchases of necessary supplies and food items. It is expected you will keep a list of needed items for purchase as you use up supplies. Keeping the kitchen clean and organized is also part of the duties.
• Give out the needed supplements and prescribed medications as per each resident’s care plan, and directly administer those items that are delegated by the home nurse to be done by the caregiver - (such as eye and ear drops or skin ointments).
• Taking the residents to joint activities in the Cornerstone van when necessary (always by van on weekends).
• Doing activities with each of the residents that fit their interests and level of participation during the course of the day. It may be sitting and watching a video with Nick, reading a book to Daniel, playing ball with Joseph, doing a puzzle with Charles, or a game with Nora and Micah.
• Arrange for group activities in the home as well as in the community to engage the residents.
• Care for the facility and do light maintenance and cleaning tasks (janitorial help is done by another, and any significant repairs will be done or arranged to be done by the Administrator).
• Other duties as requested by the Administrator.
