☀️Last week I took a few days to go down to Scottsdale to catch up with my friend and former coresident Dr. Sid Starkman . I got to spend two days checking out his facial plastic surgery practice, joined him in the OR for a few cases, and learned so much from his amazing office team!

Dr. Starkman has built a beautiful solo private practice and surrounds himself with the best team. It was fun to be back in the OR together for the first time since 2018 at the University of Buffalo.

While medical candidacy for a facelift is extremely important, it is equally important for facelift patients to have these two traits:

1️⃣ the right mindset
2️⃣ realistic expectations and goals

I’m heading into the OR this morning to do a full deep plane facelift and structural neck lift. This patient is going to have great outcomes and I’m so excited for her! She wants to do this for herself, she says when she looks in the mirror now it doesn’t reflect how she sees herself anymore.

⚡️CO2 laser is awesome in the fall because you’ll need a little downtime out of the sun. Even though there will likely be some outdoor activities you won’t want to miss, you need to be very careful with sun exposure right after laser to not jeopardize your results. Too much sun exposure too soon post laser can cause hyper pigmentation that can be difficult to manage.

☀️ Sun protection is key to maximize your results post laser treatment. Good SPF, at least 35, and hats, and shade will be your BFF.

Another episode of 🏈 Tailgate Consults 🏈

As a facial plastic surgeon I’m always getting questions out an about. So I thought I’d answer a few live at a recent KU tailgate 😆

This is a good one, she plans on probably having a facelift in the future but is not yet a candidate. She wants to know what to be doing now, without jeopardizing her candidacy for a future facelift. She specifically would like more fullness in her cheeks too.

At her stage, prevention and maintenance are key!
🧖🏻‍♀️ Focus on a good skincare regime (with at least a good spf, retinol, hyaluronic acid)
💉 Neurotoxins like Botox or Dysport to soften, prevent and decrease wrinkles
⚡️ Radiofrequency microneedling and/or some light laser to address skin tone and texture
💉 As for additional fullness in your cheeks, filler okay as long as you don’t overdo it! You can still have filler if you plan to have a facelift in the future, but know that it may need to be dissolved prior to your surgery.

💉💉This beautiful liquid rhinoplasty patient desired a bit more tip projection, and to conceal her small dorsal hump. Dermal filler was used to accomplish these goals. It’s a beautiful, subtle change! While the results of liquid rhinoplasty are immediate, these before pictures were taken at her consultation visit and the after picture was taken immediately following the procedure several weeks later.

Procedure: liquid rhinoplasty, or filler in the nose to give the illusion of a surgical rhinoplasty or “nose job”

Cost: $500-1,000, depending on the amount of filler needed, your exact cost estimate will be provided at your consultation

👶🏼 This littlest patient of ours just finished his set of EarWell ear molds and we’re ecstatic for his results!

EarWell is a great non-surgical option for infant ear deformities.

Typically it takes about 6 weeks of treatment. A gentle adhesive is used to keep a mold attached to the baby’s ear. The molds are replaced every 2 weeks with a new one to gently reshape the ear.

Reach out as soon as you think your baby may be a candidate, it’s most effective if applied in the first 3 weeks after birth.

⏰ Treatment Duration: 6 weeks

I’m so excited for this patient 🤩 They’ve been bothered by this lip lesion for quite some time and it’s got to be truly life changing having it removed.

💉This was a relatively quick in-office procedure done under local anesthesia. These photos were taken immediately post op with sutures still in place and then at the one week follow up. The healing will only improve with time and continue to be less and less noticeable.
