Pam has been with this group of surgeons for over 25 years and has been working for orthopedic surgeons for nearly 50 years. The Doctors and Staff of KCOA that work with Pam admire her unbelievable dedication to keeping the order and making sure our patients get the best care possible. Full circle moment.

A week ago at the San Diego Shoulder Institute, I was attending a lecture when a slide came up on Transforming Growth Factor-beta. TGF-β is an endocrine/paracrine signaling molecule I first studied years ago in the Lab of Chemoprevention at the National Cancer Institute. I had the privilege of working under Dr. Michael Sporn, who led the lab and played a key role in the discovery and characterization of TGF-β.

Seeing this scientific work now applied in orthopedic surgery was incredibly meaningful. It reminded me how closely our scientific foundations connect to the care we provide today.

From research at the NIH, to medical school at Georgetown, and now practicing at the Kansas City Orthopedic Institute—it’s a journey that brings together science, medicine, and patient care in the most satisfying way.
